Recover/reset Win7 Administrator Password
I was in the administrator panel of my computer tonight and realized that it is password protected. Beats me what the password is. I have a file that I keep all of my passwords in, but I guess I never put one in for this file. Any tricks on how I can recover or reset?

(6,452 posts)I think you can change the Administrator user account password.
Try this: (caveat: I use Win7 Pro, and I don't know if a home version of Win7 has the same capabilities)
1. Right-click Computer
2. Click on Manage
3. Expand System Tools (or maybe System - I can't remember off the top of my head)
4. Find the Users and Groups tab and expand it.
5. Look for the user account labeled Administrator and right-click it. Select 'Reset Password' (or the option that's similar to that)
If you are not able to use the Computer Management tool, in Control Panel you should have an icon labeled Users or Windows Users, or something like that. That tool will often let you reset passwords.
One other thing: I've seen some OEM machines that have a blank password for the Administrator account. It couldn't hurt to try that.

(37,540 posts)no option to reset password. I've found some cracking software to extract the password. I think I'll try one of these solutions. Weirdest thing, both of my computers have the administrator function password protected and I don't have either passwords. I'm pretty attentive to these types of passwords, but I can't figure out what I did with either of them.
