Related: About this forumI have just been chastised in this Group for saying "vote blue no matter who."
What's with that?
Vote blue no matter who. If you don't like that it's your problem, not mine. This is the stated purpose of this group.
revbones
(3,660 posts)or something similar, then by your logic there if the 'blue' person is an axe-murderer, they should still get your vote?
Just curious...
Cary
(11,746 posts)Don't assume.
Pray tell, when have I ever voted for an axe-murderer? Hyperbole much?
You know what I mean, and if you don't then you're not worth my time or effort to set you straight.

(3,660 posts)If you say "vote blue no matter who" then where is the line?
Cary
(11,746 posts)If you don't like my answer, tough sh** for you. And I don't do command performances, got it sport? If you want to address me then do that with due respect. You're not my judge, jury, or executioner.
Perhaps you can quote where I disrepected you? Does calling someone childish names such as "sport" count?
And if you are outraged over questioning your statements on a message board meant for discussion, then perhaps the problem isn't with those that you mentioned chastised you...
Cary
(11,746 posts)don't you understand?
Talk about childish, changing the subject to me, personally, is about as low as you can go.

(1,901 posts)right now, and you're fervently advocating one that you think has a shot at winning, are you suggesting that we should not vote for him?
I"m not sure what bothers you about this statement here, during this contest. What assumptions are you making? And why? I understand that only one candidate has not been thoroughly vetted in every corner of their lives, just what are you saying about the missing years of the other candidate?
revbones
(3,660 posts)Where is the line? The quote seems to argue that you should vote "blue" no matter what the person has done or will do. So where is the line?

(1,901 posts)Please apply your question to reality and we'll leave out the space aliens and axe-murderers and other made up beings.
Your question is absurd on its face.
Yes, in the 2016 election in November, the quote does not argue what you seem to wish it to.
What precisely is your issue in context, without the absurdities?
Cary
(11,746 posts)It's a ploy, that's all. revbones is not interested in having a discussion. revbones is changing the subject to me, personally, and has the temerity to accuse me of diversion.
Yes, you are absolutely correct. Which candidate is the axe-murderer? The answer is neither. My answer, which doesn't have to be yours of course, is that we have two excellent candidates and even at the height of the Klown Kar not one of theirs was fit to govern. But revbones doesn't have it within him or herself to allow me that point.

(14,337 posts)I support and voted for Sanders. If Hillary beats him in the Primary, then I will vote for her. I say this as a former Independent of almost 40 years who lived in a closed Primary state and could not vote for ANYONE.
I can understand being chastised by DU for saying that you will vote REPUBLICAN, or sit home, if your favorite Democratic candidate loses the Primary. I am a Democrat first and a Sanders supporter SECOND.
We are DEMOCRATS because we support the Democratic Party, period. Become an Independent, or Republican, if you do not like it.
Why is there so much animosity here between Hillary and Sanders supporters? Would you all prefer President Trump?????

(5,621 posts)Bernie supporters have been constantly chastised about Bernie not being a Democrat. How many times in the last 9 months or so have we been told that not only isn't he a Democrat but that he hates the Democratic Party. And then there is the call for him to run as an Independent because that what he is. Oh, and let's not forget the meme that Bernie hates Democrats.
Just a few reasons the site has been turned upside down.

(1,901 posts)anything you wish? Given the sheer amount directed at his opponent here, that is not factual or true, are we now to pretend that Bernie's own words (he's said numerous time that he is no Democrat, and how he feels about the party) that it's "chastisement"?
He's the one who has proudly proclaimed his independence, and the "meme" is literally is literally his own words about how he doesn't like Democrats, and why he's running as one for the attention and the money.
The reasons this site has been turned upside down is that there has been abuse of one candidate and her supporters and the other side feels they have the right to do whatever they wish, and bash the candidate, the party and all supporters who are not sufficiently adoring of their own.
On a Dem site, to be this hostile to Dems, and for it to go unchecked ... it's not hard to see how it's been turned upside down and who has been doing it. Given that even Bernie supporters have been subjected to abuse by those who claim their support is more pure, it's unfair and dishonest to place the blame on those who are most abused here.

(31,849 posts), Bernie WAS NOT and DID NOT identify as a member of the Democratic Party ... though he did caucus with the Democrats in the Senate (and the House) and prior to his signing the Affidavit, he DID use his criticisms of the Democratic Party as his reason for not joining the Democratic Party.
All of that is fact.

(6,719 posts)The demand for all of us to vote blue no matter who started a long time ago. The primaries have a place and I wish I could vote before being told what to do! Please. I respect the call for working together. Maybe you voted in January. I don't know. In that case you are feeling some impatience re the process. I am impatient also -- just a different reason. I'd like to be allowed to vote. Thank you.
Cary
(11,746 posts)That's ridiculous, unless you plan to vote for a Republican.
Read StevenLesser's pinned thread. This Group is about positive conversation about the Democratic Party. I did not tell you how to vote. I am making positive statements about Democrats.
I hope that clears that up for you and if you don't like being positive about Democrats then don't come here.
I did not come anywhere. You were in latest threads which is open to all. Vote blue no matter who is telling me how to vote. I am blue. And now I am laughing.

You don't have to agree to the principle. I'm tired of the quibbling and the little games, and let's not forget that this is the Democrat Group. Please read StevenLesser's pinned post. Your continued participation here is most welcome, as long as you understand the point.

(11,746 posts)The Republican Party is a mess. I would expect moderate conservatives might run as Democrats and yes, perhaps worse. It depends on facts and circumstances and there are exceptions. I would not hold it against you if you didn't vote for Kim Davis.
That was never my point.

(58,785 posts)would have clued that this was just a nice, cheer-ily positive post and not strangely interpreted by a few as some kind of fascistic order to fall in line. Or whatever that was.
With Trump offering the right such an outstanding choice to vote red no matter who, it's obvious that Democrats would never do that in the first place. More, and very importantly, Democrats are not the kind of people who do that. At least not liberal Democrats. We don't do fascism and we don't do authoritarianism. We are our nation's primary guardians of liberty and equality. So there could be no chance I was going to take anything this is anything but the nice welcome it was.
This thread is not a good start. Let's let it drop down.
Cary
(11,746 posts)You're assuming that those few who interpreted this as some kind of fascistic order would be more amenable to something else. I have no evidence of that.

(25 posts)I'm 37, I've worked full time for the same employer. I could have voted for Bill Clinton in the 96 election....i didn't. Not for political reasons, i just wasn't engaged. I was only 18. I didn't vote in 2000....again, young and un-engaged but i had pondered voting for Bush(Parents were Republicans).
9/11 started to wake me up but more importantly, the reaction to 9/11. The Iraq War got me politically active and as i started to form my political beliefs. I realized i'm a Progressive. Not a Democrat, but a Progressive. My political knowledge was still in it's infancy but at the moment Democrats represented my views.
Fast forward to 2008. I was a staunch supporter of Obama(still am). I was skeptical of giving the same family control of the executive branch as had been done with the Bush's. The campaign tactics of the Clinton's further pushed me from the thought of voting for her....
2009 and the Great Recession and peeling away the curtain that concealed the fraud. The fraud that wouldn't have happened had Bill Clinton not signed into law the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act(Glass-Steagall Act repeal), Commodity Futures Modernization Act, and the Telecommunications Act of 1996 which concentrated media and insured the fairness doctrine was dead, leaving us with info-tainment news outlets which keep the public dumb.
Sorry if I'm reluctant to give Hillary my vote in November. Both parties have been complicit in our current economic and social realities. The Clinton's have played a major role in it and have not earned my vote. If that bothers Democrats or the Democratic party, i would offer them to give us better candidates.
BTW, not so stellar record as Secretary of State..
