Hakeem Jeffries to make history as the first Black lawmaker to lead a party in Congress

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries is expected to make history as the first Black lawmaker to lead a party in Congress as the 118th Congress convenes in Washington.

The New York Democrat will almost certainly lead the minority party, once the prolonged floor fight for House speaker comes to a conclusion. He would succeed Nancy Pelosi, who served as speaker in the prior session of Congress when Democrats were in the majority. In addition to being the first Black lawmaker to attain such a position, he also would be the first person voted to lead House Democrats to be born after the end of World War II.

snip

House Democrats selected Jeffries to helm their party during a closed-door election in November. He ran unopposed, and Democrats have united around him following Pelosi’s exit from leadership after two decades helming the party. Jeffries will likely be at the forefront of the House Democratic minority for the next two years with Republicans holding a slim majority in the chamber.

Something to celebrate and it is about damn time a person of color is Speaker of the House! This is what representative government looks like with Hakeem Jeffries in that position.

Jeffries is solidly qualified, but what's more
he's a good man who represents the people first!

I was a kid when Nixon was elected president,
my older brother was still in the military in Vietnam

I had nightmares back then that he would come
home in disfigured, or even worse,
in a body bag.

I came from a single parent home.

My mom was a nurse and she did the best she
could for us, and nurses did not make much money back
then.

What does it really mean to feel like you are free
from poverty, free to be yourself, and believe that you can be safe
from some nut with a gun, or honestly the police, or honestly gangs, formed by lack of education and potential,
who kill each other shooting bullets all around that hit innocent children.
I feel that Jeffries has the ability to explain the truth / not for the purpose of power /
but as a public service!

Jonas Salk worked towards the Polio Vaccine never asking for any profit.
Scientific minds make mistakes, and this is the endeavor or should be the endeavor
to understand the unknown / and man there is a whole lot of mystery + a whole
lot of misunderstanding, and all this can stuff can easily be confusing to the lay person
on the street...

So, I think Jeffres gets all that as good as anyone could.
Thank you!
