when will it be enough

By Liberal Librarian

Columbine came and went. We mourned, we vowed never again, we resolved to be a better nation. But it wasn’t enough.

Ft. Hood came and went. We mourned, we vowed “Terror won’t win”, we resolved to learn the lessons imparted. But it wasn’t enough.

Gabby Giffords will never be the same, and members from both sides of the aisle heaped praise on her. It wasn’t enough.

snip

It can’t be that difficult. Our freedom can’t depend on an armed nation. This is the 21st century; the frontier is closed; the natives have been subdued. Someone needs to explain to me why my freedom depends on my neighbor being allowed to amass an arsenal. Someone needs to explain to me why my freedom depends on an absolutist interpretation of the “right to bear arms”, an absolutism which doesn’t extend even to the amendment which precedes it.

Has the NRA started their spin yet?

No, I don't diminish all the other deaths, they are important, every last one of them. Yet there was something vicious about how those babies died, it was not a single gunshot, they were slaughtered.

The NRA and the GOP that refuse to make even the smallest changes, they are despicable. You are right, they are insane.

gun owners in this country. They are selfish and irrational when it comes to guns. The speed at which they get to hyperbole (as in "no one's gonna take my guns&quot is proof that they are unwilling to do anything at all. We demand something be done, even small measures such as required background checks, and they are suddenly arguing that we want to take their guns away. I suppose that's true if the gun owner is a convicted violent criminal who has abused the right to own a gun by threatening, hurting, or killing others. That is the terrible "taking my guns" issue they fear so much. So in essence, they are protecting only the criminals with their rhetoric.

to give up their guns. if you feel that your gun is more important then someone's safety, you shouldn't have it, period.

but this quote:

the natives have been subdued

makes me
What we did to native americans was pure genocide for wanton greed. There was no self-defense aspect involved.
