President Obama cracks jokes at elite Alfalfa Club dinner

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/reliable-source/post/president-obama-attends-elite-alfalfa-club-dinner/2012/01/28/gIQATk33YQ_blog.html?tid=pm_lifestyle_pop

Well, look who decided to come around! President Obama, whose White House years have been marked by a careful avoidance of so many black-tie Beltway traditions, attended the most elite of them all, the annual Alfalfa Club dinner, on Saturday.

Why? In his remarks at the Capital Hilton, to political and business heavyhitters who’d walked a gantlet of Occupy D.C. protesters to make it to their steak-and-lobster meal, the president explained:

“You’ve heard it from the pundits: ‘Obama is cloistered in the White House.’ ‘He’s aloof.’ ‘He’s in the bubble.’ ‘He’s not connecting.’ And that’s why one of my big goals this year was to get out and be among everyday, ordinary Americans — like the men and women of the Alfalfa Club.”

(snip)

Yes, it’s one of those jocular affairs. Obama also joked that he had “about 45 more minutes on the State of the Union that I’d like to deliver tonight,” and mused about his own “promising future — as an Al Green impersonator.”

we also learn that this dinner is probably one reason that Jeb and GHW Bush were in Washinton.

also, that Michele went and wore something maybe red and flowing...

and that Joe Lieberman was booed by the Occupy people who were outside. ( hahaha )

point for the presidency (not necessarily win, just run). A lot of their nominees have ended up running, and some have won. This year, they nominated JEB--and that is why Poppy and Jeb stopped by the WH the other day.

Lieberman--who I guess walked to the event (it was at the Hilton)--got "Glitter Bombed" by some OWS people outside. He had a big smear of glitter all over the back of his tux on his right side.

The Alfalfa Club is a club of DC movers/shakers. They have no other function except to get together once a year and eat noisily at this stupid dinner. It's more of an "I've Arrived!" thing--if you're important enough to be asked to join the club, why, you're SOMEBODY.

Bill Clinton, when he was Prez, boycotted the Alfalfa Club until they let women in the door (it used to be a Boy's Club, even in the nineties--go figure!). He only had to skip it a year, I think. They finally got with the program!

I wonder what would be in the "the 45 more minutes on the State of the Union" he mentioned delivering?

I didn't add any of my own words. Probably a good idea to check the link.
Maybe because I snipped part of it caused confusion (???)
