Related: About this forumTree along property line cut in half; neighbors feuding
The towering blue spruce splits Rosario Mulder and Lenys Straight's property line. It's mostly on Mulder's property, but some of it's on Straight's.
...
But the spruce is mostly on the the Mulder's property and they wanted no part of removing it -- and no part of the cost of removal.
...
"Trees don't speak. They don't have to speak. You just need to look at the tree," said Mulder. "Poor tree. How the tree can be happy?"

(135,425 posts)1. It would be funny if the tree died and fell on the chopper's house!
But there is state law. Property owners can trim the part of a neighbor's tree that crosses onto their land, they can only do it as long as the trimming doesn't hurt the tree.
Brian Hiemstra, a certified arborist with Barlett Tree Experts, said that too much of the tree was cut away for it to remain healthy.

If this turns out to be the case, and the chopping neighbor cut too much of the tree, the other neighbor can sue and make the chopper not only pay for the cost of removal, but also the cost of planting a new tree!
For whatever the cost that the chopper paid to get all those branches hacked off, he could have bought himself one of these beauties, and sheltered his car that way without screwing up the tree:

(18,219 posts)2. I keep waiting for this to happen to me.
I also have property line trees----five of them. And the neighbor property is a vacant lot, but we have been feuding about the dead branches that fall for years. One day, I would not be surprised to see that they did this, and it will kill the trees. And I have already checked the law on this and spoken to an attorney to make sure of my rights (that is how close I have felt this was to happening). I feel for the neighbor of the asshole.
