Senate Intelligence Committee votes to declassify report on CIA interrogations

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee voted on Thursday to recommend declassification of the 480-page summary, findings and conclusions of its report on the CIA’s use of “enhanced interrogation methods,” such as water boarding, which critics say amount to torture.

Senator Dianne Feinstein, who chairs the committee, said the vote was 11-3.

There will still be some time before any of the report is made public.

The Senate panel will now ask the White House – not the Central Intelligence Agency itself – to declassify the politically sensitive report. President Barack Obama has repeatedly said he wants to see a version of the report made public.
