Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumKos strikes again - Sanders Delusional Push for Superdelegate Coup
Bernie Sanders signaled Wednesday that he would continue his presidential campaign beyond the California primary next week, saying he had the money to keep running until the Democratic National Convention next month [...]
While Mrs. Clinton is just 71 delegates shy of the 2,383 needed to clinch the nomination, Mr. Sanders said he was feeling pretty good about his campaign and hoped superdelegates would realize that he was the best candidate to beat Donald J. Trump in the general election. He also said he hoped the next week would bring victories that could help him make his case at the partys convention in Philadelphia.
You know whats ironic? (1) Either the voters matter and he already lost, or (2) they dont matter and a superdelegate coup is on the table, so who cares who wins the upcoming contests? You cant have it both ways.
Either way, superdelegates willing to overturn the democratic process and flipping to Sanders:
Zero.

(6,537 posts)Once it is clear who won, the supers will rally around her. As they did with Obama in '08.

(521 posts)I recently started to watch The Big Bang Theory, because it was recommended to me by several people. Anyway, I'm on Season 4 now, and there was an episode titled "The Bus Pants Utilization," in which the guys are trying to create an app that will make them rich... or so they hope. But Sheldon is being obnoxious and interfering with the process, so they kick him out of the group. Later, Sheldon tries to lure Raj and Howard away from Leonard, so they can team up together instead and create an app together, but they don't bite. Eventually, Sheldon must apologize (albeit grudgingly) in order to bet let back in, but the moment they take him back, he starts being overbearing again, trying to dictate what their app should be about and the overall direction of the fledgling company. So they kick him out again.
That reminded me of the current Sanders situation., He's not winning, so he's trying to lure the superdelegates away from Clinton, but they're not taking the bait. As a peace offering, the DNC let him include 5 of his people to the platform committee, but he also wants to have a say who Clinton can have on her side and who she should pick for VP and other bizarre demands that losers generally don't get to make. It's like he's trying to take over. I hope the DNC kicks him out of the party or has him primaried in the 2018 midterms. He's no friend to the Democrats and is doing more harm than good. This should've been an easy victory for us. Trump is the GOP pick. But once again, we're a divided party, perhaps uglier than it was in 2008. I just hope it works out in the end, like it did then.

(1,473 posts)My favorite lines in this category of Berner bull are:
"I'll be voting against Trump but not for Hillary." or "I'm not going to vote so I'm not responsible for a Trump presidency" cop outs.
Then you aren't voting against Trump you're voting for a third party loser..so yes these folks would be just as responsible for a Trump win as a Trump voter should it happen... though they are trying really hard to escape any responsibility.
They sound more and more like the GOP every day.
And I guess it escapes these people that they too will be living under that same scorched earth policy, as well as their children.
Making decisions based on angry and desperation is hardly a good idea...but Progressives have shot themselves in the feet for decades doing the same "voting their consciences" into Republican Congresses and presidencies. I had hoped that finally we'd come together after the GOOP bs that has gone on for some 30+ years now, but nope...an new group of spoiled entitled zealots are doing their best to screw it all up for all Progressives and they just refuse to learn from the past.
I watched Bill Maher and Bill Nye go back and forth with Dylan Ratigan, who says they will just go around the establishment , they don't need to vote.
He said they'd do " it" on the local levels..but somehow with out voting ... are these people really that ignorant?

(6,537 posts)I read a comment, can't remember if it was here or on twitter, but it said "We have the people, let Republicans have the ballot box". I still have no idea what they meant, unless they are so totally anti government that they think a bad one has no effect on their lives. That they can exist in their own private enclaves without any government influence at all. I have no idea, though, if that's what the comment meant.

(1,473 posts)We have the people to do what?
I can't get anyone to answer how they're going to make changes without getting the most tenable progressives elected.
I asked if Bernie's revolution meant they were going to form a violent coup which , as I see it is the only alternative to using the establishment and getting elected.
Nothing ..no answers
charlyvi
(6,537 posts)But I agree with you; it seems the only logical outcome of their revolution is "Revolution". That's as crazy, though, as the most far right Teabagger or NRA politics. But how you can let the Repubs have the ballot box and think you won't be affected in some way is delusional.
puffy socks
(1,473 posts)I believe for some it's a kind of normalcy bias. The idea that really when it comes down to it, nothing will really change regardless of who is elected. I guess that's because so few of them are affected in any really meaningful way.
It brings the Manassas civil war battle and the spectators to mind.

(6,537 posts)They have become politically aware under Obama and have no historical perspective of how much worse things can be.
Plus, thinking they can change the world is exciting and romantic to many of them.....I remember the '60s. Boomers had the Weathermen, they have the Featherman....Sorry.

(7 posts)That doesn't mean you let the powers that be run amok though. I was actually inspired by that to get involved in local initiatives that aren't political. Not saying that I will, because I'm lazy outside of work(hard job), but I feel like more people should try to do these things, and still vote.
Edit: Fuck Kos and his disdain for dissenting opinions. I used to only go there. After Bernie's first real "surge", he decided that he should post a diary about how anyone that disagreed with his decision that Hillary be anointed in March was delusional. It was still a race back then. Overly optimistic? Yes. Delusional? No! He pretty much broke all the rules he set for debating the 2016 primary at that point. Sure it's his site, but only authoritarians refuse to lead by example. I have found many great sites like this since then, and Bernie has made it his job to lose my support, but I repeat, "Fuck Kos!"

(1,473 posts)Even if you change the minds of 99% of the people the 1% that have the elected seats can prevent you from changing anything with legislation. And there will always be an opposition.
for example. Women still have the right to an abortion, now try and find an abortion clinic anywhere near Lubbock Texas and ask yourself why there are so few in the entire state. How are we going to solve this problem locally without elected seats?
or tax cuts for corporations , or welfare for corporations, how does this change federal taxes ? or immigration? the drug war?
for profit prisons?
charlyvi
(6,537 posts)You don't. And to say that the ballot box is irrelevant, that who has the power in this country does not affect individuals is delusional. Republicans want to force me into childbirth; Republicans want to limit health insurance to those who pay full freight for it; Republicans want to dictate who can marry and who can't; Republicans want Social Security to be privatized; Republicans want Medicare to turn into vouchers; Republicans want etc., etc. And fuck Kos? He'd probably say fuck you, and I would agree.
P.S. You're in the wrong group pal.

Even on election night, they thought they were going to win. Ann Romney and the Ryans looked absolutely shellshocked at Mitt's concession speech.
