On the road with Hillary Clinton as she surprisingly connects with voters

KEENE, N.H. — You've heard that the FBI is investigating Hillary Rodham Clinton's handling of classified information on her personal email server as secretary of state. And you know that nobody considers Mrs. Clinton nearly as skilled a politician as her husband, Bill Clinton, or as magnetic as her old boss, Barack Obama.

What you may not realize, and what is consistently overlooked lately amid her email scandal, the attention on Donald Trump, and the buzz about gigantic crowds for Democratic primary rival Bernie Sanders, is that the cautious candidate so often depicted as cold and distant connects quite well with voters.

"She brought me to tears. I am a tough, cranky, hard-a-- New Englander, and she touched my heart today," businesswoman Denise Andrews said after attending a town hall meeting in Exeter, N.H.

News coverage of Clinton's Exeter appearance focused on her reaction to "offensive, outrageous" Trump, rather than her interaction with the mother of a 5-year-old girl battling cancer or the young man drowning in college loans and unable to find a job. ("You're a good-looking young man. You ought to be out in the world making your way," Clinton said, sounding like a grandma.)

As a New Englander....that sure sounds like a typical cranky New Hampshireite.

Love it.

back in the early part of the century, in New York.

A lot of water under the bridge since then.. a lot more experiences of leading and meeting all kinds of people around the world!

Now Hill is back on the campaign trail.. ready to be President. These people are connecting with the next President of the United States of America.

is that Hillary doesn't need crowds. Sanders does, to build name recognition. Hillary has all of that she needs, and more.

What she's doing in the town meeting and dinner speeches is solidifying the Democratic base by interacting with party loyalists and individual voters. She's laying the foundation for the hard work to be done after the convention, when her time becomes limited and her schedule frenetic. This is good, solid GOTV work. She will be able to go into the GE knowing that women, PoC and LGBT's are all solidly behind her. Sanders hasn't the time to do this, or, it seems the personality.

Speaking of which. I find it admirable in both Hillary and Bernie that they aren't running against each other. Sanders is running against problems the country faces ( though I think his priorities are backwards), and Hillary is making mincemeat of the Republicans.
