Born September 1, 1933, Ann Richards was the first woman to be elected governor of Texas in her own right. But she was more than a glass ceiling breaker herselfher mission was to open up the government to everyone and to leave no one behind. A feminist icon who told it like it is, were celebrating Ann for her commitment to fighting for women and families.

(22,871 posts)Jennifer Granholm at the convention giving that powerful speech,I was watching with my Mom and said to her "she sounds like she's channeling Ann Richards",my Mom got tears in her eyes and said "God, I miss her!". We both got a little verklempt .Some people leave a huge hole when they're gone, both Ann Richards and Molly Ivins were those kind of people.
