Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forum--I'm backing Hillary Clinton in the Primaries--
Why? Because only she can save us from a 100% GOP stronghold, and that's why she will have my vote!
She is our only hope not only to save our sorry butts, but to save much of the world.
I decided this 3 days ago after watching the News Media salivating at the thought of Hillary Clinton losing, and Bernie Sanders becoming our nominee!
Bernie Sanders has not yet been vetted, and the media hopes that won't happen until after the primaries....till then, it's Trump, Cruz, Trump, Hillary emails, and Bernie is Surging!
As a Corporate media Hater, I know their ways, and it is obvious to me now that they understand exactly that Bernie Sanders, once vetted, will not win Pennsylvania, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Wisconsin, Virginia or Florida and perhaps some more states! Those are the states that are needed but are normally close enough and have in the recent past gone back and forth!
Do I Love Hillary Clinton? She's OK with me,
and considering the alternative which is not Bernie Sander but a Republican,
She will do just fine, thank you!
Go Hillary!
PS: The polls citing that Sanders does better against Republicans in a General election are the same polls who had Obama losing by up to 12 points to John McCain right before the first Iowa Caucus!

(68,867 posts)Day in, day out...by the spoiled snotty noses who decided they could personally themselves do things much better than him!
Those folks made me step back and say...let me enjoy this President while I still can.....
and thus far, I haven't looked back!
However, I did need to pick who I would vote for,
and when I started researching a bit more these two,
I said to myself...oh-oh....one is not like the other.
Hillary Clinton can win....
Bernie Sanders, not so much, except maybe on DU and other Super left leaning places....in primaries!
and we're definitely in need of a winner for the general!
I predicted that Marco Rubio may shake out to be the Nominee on the other side (he's been kept in the middle of the pack, and the media has not too many bad things to say about him, like they are protecting him).....But perhaps Trump's mouth is so big, nobody else can sneak on by! We shall see on that one. They are not my peeps, so it's always harder for me to predict what Republican voters like and don't like! I did predict that in 2007 that McCain would come back and end up the nominee in 2008 tho!

Like you, I don't have to fall in love with a candidate to know who's best positioned, and best suited for the job of POTUS. I don't think there has ever been, or will ever be a POTUS that I felt such a connection with as our current President. That being said, I opposed Hillary in '08, but the graciousness she showed to the party & to President Obama at her concession, showed me the type person she truly is. And once she accepted the position in the Cabinet, I knew that if she ever chose to run again, I would be in her corner.
Unlike some of Hillary's supporters, I can't claim any affection for BS, as I CANNOT stand him. I don't see things radically changing in Washington under a Sanders administration. The polarization we're currently dealing with will only heighten, and that's not good for the country. BS, much like Donald Trump & Ted Cruz, plays to an increasingly angry white & partisan vein that runs through talk radio & the many echo chambers that have sprung up on the internet.
If polling is to be believed, those of us who are NOT "feeling the Bern", are the ones who actually spurred the last president to victory. As for the Republicans, I actually think they are going to nominate Donald Trump, and despite predictions, I think he will be a formidable opponent to whomever we nominate, and that makes me nervous.
FrenchieCat
(68,867 posts)and I don't have a problem with what he is advocating....
The real problem is reality! If he was viable to win it all, the Green Party would have won the presidency at least once before!
Hasn't happened!
If you think they threw the book at Obama, calling him a Muslim, non-Christian, that he's a socialist...
well, none of those things were true, so they couldn't really bring him all the way down, but it did work somewhat with way too many!
In the case of Bernie, it would all be true. He isn't a Christian, he's Jewish, but actually he doesn't practice any religion at all....Great!
He's lived a long life and he has a long documented trail! He was an actual Socialist (Liberty Union Party) before he became a "Democratic Socialist". Just because they didn't care in Vermont; Vermont doesn't equal the entire US! I remember that some thought that Obama had been vetted because he was already a Senator.....but Presidential vetting? Well that's a whole other matter!
Not the hills I need to die on for policies that aren't gonna get done.
On election day, it would be the Republicans mocking us with the ..."Feel the bern" yet?
But enough about Bernie Sanders for now......

(68,867 posts)Yep, I'm in!
I'm in the "Build on what we already got" camp , rather than let's tear it all down, which is what the Republicans will do on day one, if we don't make this woman our nominee.
Plus I really resent how this brilliant, qualified and experienced woman (whomever can't at least give her is a sad person, IMO!),is being demonized not only by the news media and Republicans, but by some of the Bernie Supporters I have encountered on Facebook. Any questions that I had in reference to Bernie are responded to with "well Hillary is this and that"....like that constitutes an answer! Seriously?
I asked on FB what his educational background was (cause I didn't know, and though I had googled, I only found U of Chicago, but didn't know in what or if there was a graduate degree or what). Guy responded, he got a BA in Political Science from U of Chicago, and then another post from same guy saying, Reagan had a BA from Emerson college, class of '35. Like why are you bringing up Reagan????
Sure, I have some FB friends that I know here at DU that are supporting Bernie, and that's fine too! I guess I've just always been more of a realist! I predicted that Kerry would lose the general, and that Obama would win it! I am ready to predict that if Hillary is our nominee, she will kick Republican asses and take no prisoners! It's much more complicate and delicate for the Clinton camp to go for blood in a primary, as was witnessed the last go around (and yeah...I didn't like it one bit, but if Obama got over it, then so did I!), and somewhat now as well. But Republicans? I don't give a Sh*t what she's got to do to get to the White House, in terms of their sorry arses! And I have faith, she will get it done!
I will donate for my 2nd time tomorrow, and will do so each week till there's no more need!

(68,867 posts)She really is the only one that can save this country, IMO!
All of the other front runners in both parties, are unpredictable political unknowns who could take this country into the abyss! Even many Republicans are afraid of a Trump or Cruz presidency! Even they don't know how their wealth would fare under those two! There is nothing worse for the stock market and the world economy than the unpredictable! Like the GOP's own Lindsey Graham stated, the top GOP pics is a choice of taking poison or stabbed to death with a knife. Some of them would secretly vote for Hillary or just stay home, because at least no matter their conditioned dislike for her, if nothing else, they know Hillary is more of a known, and isn't running to turn the government upside down and inside out!
.....And I know that most Democratic House members and Senators running for re-election actually don't want to run on a Socialist Bernie Sanders platform; they want to run on Obama's legacy in order to preserve it and expand it!

(68,867 posts)Barack Obama is/was a young, tall, dark, handsome, hip, Christian, moderate Democrat, who came from a large mid-west state with roots in another state (Hawaii), elected to the senate for a short while, had a beautiful young family to show, a wonderful oratory, a fascinating life story, Harvard Law educated, Pres of Harvard Law Review, and ran a campaign never seen before on the platform of ending wars while reestablishing our image around the world via diplomacy, bringing back our economy from the brink, providing affordable health care insurance to more Americans, all after America had suffered 8 years under Bush, who was at the height of his unpopularity throughout the 2008 election.
Bernie Sanders is a male Senator running a people powered campaign in the Presidential Democratic primary against Hillary Clinton, and that is where their similarity ends, far as what I see.
Oh....and they both were/are running on Change,
and one is running on radical changes that I can't see happening due to the 2010 Census election that
gave us a gerrymandered congress.
If folks don't see the difference, then there's not much I can do for them!

Great, I love that you're for Hillary.. whatever the reason. Shows how realistic you are and how much you care for our Planet.
I've been with Hillary since Spring.. and, the more I learned more about her actual experience the more I started realizing how great of a President she will be.
I was one of her biggest opponents in the Obama-Hillary primaries.. But, President Obama and she came together for the good of our country and he's said that.. one of the best decisions he's ever made was choosing her to be his SOS. I rooted for both of them then.
And, I really don't like sanders.. he wanted President Obama primaried in 2012 and dissed him too many times.. still disrespecting him out on the campaign trail. It's disgusting. It's not reality.
Good to see you!

(30,717 posts)appointed her SOS. Real Democrats get over their differences and work together for the good of the country. Both of them ended up doing jobs that suited them well.
People like Teddy Kennedy knew how to work with republicans, too. There are some Democrats who know still that politics is the art of compromise.
The current crop of republicans only know how to shut things down and make a lot of noise. I think it is good that their party is imploding. Maybe they will elect a new, young crop of repubbies who realize that they need to work across the aisle again. It won't happen soon, but it could happen. It may take a crisis.
I don't think that Bernie understands that President Obama has a high approval rating. He underestimates him, after all this time. I don't think Bernie understands just how momentous his election was, not just for POC, but for all Americans. It did wonders for our standing in the rest of the world as well.
And the scoffers here, those trying to resurrect old scandals, do not understand that Bill Clinton still has rock star popularity himself. He is superb on the campaign trail.
Cha
(296,875 posts)You've hit on something important.. Bernie does not understand how momentous President Obama's elections were and how they continue to be.
You can tell by his remarks in 2014.. I could post a quote here but I've seen someone get a hide for quoting Bernie saying it.. So, suffice to say BS has no idea how this has impacted America.
His campaign is in desperate mode.. making all kinds of inappropriate accusations now that aren't helping.. in fact just the opposite.

(3,121 posts)In February 2004, Governor Dean was relegated from a people-powered front runner to something of a punchline over a one week period after the forces of the traditional media were marshaled against him on an innocuous little mic glitch. Everyone-- everyone-- piled on and all the People Power in the world could not save him.
He was well known among liberal activists and Democratic primary voters, but on the national scene, he was a blank canvas. So the media got to define him nationally as the "Scream" guy. Everybody had a jolly laugh and he was dead in the water. Overnight.
I love Bernie, but does anyone seriously think that a similar media onslaught is not in the offing for him if he becomes nationally competitive?
There is no one on the planet who has been more fully vetted and battle- tested than Hillary. With three SCOTUS nominations-- and eighty years of progressive legislation-- at risk, I'm going with Hillary.
Yep and yep!

That's what I practice......
because at the end of the day, it can't be personal, since we all actually want the same goals; to beat the Republicans and gain progress!
It think some will differ with how long changes should take....
But we have made much progress, after taking 10 steps back with Bush if anyone would care to look!

(36,926 posts)CNN is particularly blatant in pushing it's flawed, outlier CNN/ORC Iowa poll, showing Sanders up by 8 and ignoring all the other recent Iowa polls showing Hillary up by about that amount. So my solution is to not watch our crap for news network stations. Don't know what I'll do on Feb. 1, but I sure won't be tuning in to the MSM, until they are forced to eat their shit sandwiches! That will be fun.
