Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumHave you ever seen a debate use a comedian to mock a candidate before?
Last night CNN used a Stephen Colbert clip to mock Hillary Clinton, can you imagine any other presidential candidate being treated like that???

(879 posts)it was a clip from his late night show, where they make fun of all politicians. Why CNN chose to use that in a serious debate/town hall setting is beyond me. But she acquitted herself well, because she's awesome.

There is a whole industry built on mocking/criticizing/dehumanizing Hillary Clinton. Grrrr.......

(205 posts)I am a Bernie supporter and I found it a very low blow.
It was a disgrace!
Of course Hillary laughed to play it down. Good for her.

(11,746 posts)I don't see any need to agree, as much as simply showing common decency.
I believe we are up to that, as you seem to be. That's how things should be. Thank you.

(205 posts)...plus, the media has no human decency. They go for the juggler to get ratings, money... money... money.
I will continue to make posts when I see injustice.

Of course, during his hour, they showed an attack ad from Hillary about him which was another low blow.
WTF CNN?

(15,369 posts)to a different standard and receives treatment accordingly.
Now if she, like Bernie, had embraced socialism, had had a short spurt of on-the-ground activism, had written a couple independent op-eds, had had a child out of wedlock, had never held a steady job until her 40s, and only from then on had held political office in and for a state where an independent go-it-alone attitude is not only admired but encouraged and building political coalitions was not necessary, and railed constantly against the "Establishment" while being PART of the DC "Establishment since 1991, she STILL would NOT have been able suddenly to trade in her "I" label for a "D" solely to make a run for US President. One can only begin to imagine the treatment - and disparaging and worse comments - she would have gotten.
Can you imagine the treatment President Obama or any other minority candidate would have received with the same or similar background?
Hillary has undeniably outstanding achievements and has from at least 1972 on been a consistent and stalwart champion of liberal causes, implementing many things that have actually improved the lives of many of the vulnerable among us. Yet some SBS supporters refer to her impressive achievements as "crumbs."
Double standards all over the place.

(3,290 posts)in one paragraph. I think he is a user, mooching off a well established and respected political party for his own non-wavering economic ideology. An ideology that has no chance of being enacted in this country and would not work if it was. If you tear down a system you better be damn sure that you have a better, well thought out and researched economically feasible replacement that can be put into place. I am not seeing it from the Sander's campaign.

(16,104 posts)Carter had made multiple professions of faith (including "I have committed the sin of lust" in Playboy magazine interview).
The ever-cynical press jumped all over his 'honesty'!
Now, flash to 2016. Why would the press ever ask Trump, Cruz, Rubio, Sanders - 'the guys' - "Would you ever lie to the American people?" In this age of instant fact-check, and knowing 'done and done' already.
Only Hillary gets this question. And she knows she is the only one to get this ridiculous, stupid, dismissive, insulting question.

pathetic (imo) but that's where we are
Could you imagine Forrest Trump telling Edward R Murrow, Cronkite, Brinkley, etc that if they weren't nicer to him he wouldn't come on their show or network?
They'd laugh at him and ignore him

(26,623 posts)I'm glad she laughed. Colbert and others like him make their living making fun of the media, which is what he was doing, and we should all laugh at that.... then we should cry.

Or some crap like that
CNN sucks!

(5,648 posts)I'll admit to getting distracted right before that part of the town hall started so I may have come away with the wrong impression. However, wasn't Colbert telling Hillary that she should have just lie like every other politician and why was she insisting on telling the truth when it would benefit her to lie?
if That was the case I would say he was paying her a complement. However, I stand ready to be corrected.
