Bernie Sanders attacks Hillary Clinton, sounds a lot like the conspiracy trolls who support him
By Bill Palmer | February 23, 2016 |
In tonights democratic party town hall, Bernie Sanders faced more questions than ever about the validity of his economic proposals, which have been routinely criticized by various economists (and anyone with a calculator) for being foolhardy. ........................ But when Sanders was asked to explain why four prominent economists came together to point out the flaws in his plans, he merely accused them of being Hillary Clinton shills.
After spending the first six months of this election running a clean and respectful campaign of ideas which endeared him to many democrats whether they were planning to vote for him or not, Bernie Sanders is now sounding a lot like the online trolls who support his campaign. Theyve become infamous for scouring the internet and social media for any mention of Sanders or Clinton, so they can praise his integrity while spreading simplistic lies and bizarre conspiracy theories about her. Anyone who criticizes their inappropriate behavior is accused of being part of the establishment or of having been secretly paid off by Clinton. The behavior of the loudest Sanders supporters has become an internet punchline thats hurt him, and now Bernie has begun talking like one of them.
By simply saying Let me guess, they were organized by the Clinton campaign, Sanders was able to avoid addressing the factual criticisms of his proposals that were levied this week by some of the worlds top economists. Immediately, his online supporters traced the entire personal and professional history of the four respected economists to see if they could find any tangential connection to the Clintons, and managed to come up with some wild conspiracies to support Bernies generic accusations. While mainstream voters will certainly be turned off by Bernies trolling tactics, at least now his rhetoric is in line with the internet trolls who support him.

(50,559 posts)The Bernie Sanders plan makes even less fiscal sense than the Amway compensation plan.

Cuomo was nice, he let him off the hook by not re-asking the question that Sanders ducked.

(31,170 posts)has been putting out. He's been a professional politician for decades, but he seems very naive in many ways. I've been wondering who is pulling the strings in the campaign, since it seems so out of character from the man.

(3,014 posts)So because I support Bernie, I'm a conspiracy troll? Really? I prefer Bernie to Hillary, but plan to vote for her if she wins the nomination.
Calling me names certainly doesn't make me want to vote for someone. Perhaps alienating people is not the way to go.

(4,640 posts)your own group? Or GD P? This is the CLINTON group.
Yes, I see another hide from alert stalking in a GROUP.

(3,014 posts)for the record.
Dialogue is not possible here like it was a decade ago. So after years of contributing on the regular,
now I post like once every six months.
Apparently this is why we need protected groups? But I had no idea it had gotten that bad that we needed to separate ourselves from fellow duers.
What has become of DU?

(10,845 posts)Do you understand the protected group concept? I'm guessing no. It's not too difficult for most adults to figure out. Take a minute and see if you can.

(3,014 posts)I've been here since 2004...but I have no idea what this protected rule is. Never even heard of it.
And I thought I was quite polite about it. I'm voting for whomever the candidate is. Politeness has always worked here at DU for the 12 years I've been here. I just thought it was inappropriate to lump an entire group of people that will be voting for your favorite candidate in a few months under the label of conspiracy nuts.
Ive not been mean. I've not been impolite. There was zero need to insult me. An "adult", as you put it, would know your behavior is inappropriate. In fact, you owe me an apology.

(4,640 posts)The remark was to avoid the question. No doubts about that at all.

(12,448 posts)Not the first time, or the last, that Sanders avoids answering a question with substance, launching instead into his usual stump speech rangs about establishment, oligarchy, etc. etc. ad nauseum.
