THIS IS A POST IN THE HILLARY GROUP.
Real title of article: The Right Baits the Left to Turn Against Hillary Clinton
Me: Too much to post without breaking the copyright rules.
Summary: Right-wing groups post anti-Clinton tweets/cartoons, and hope that liberal groups or people will share them.
They hope to erode Hillary's base support.
---snip---
For months now, America Rising has sent out a steady stream of posts on social media attacking Mrs. Clinton, some of them specifically designed to be spotted, and shared, by liberals. The posts highlight critiques of her connections to Wall Street and the Clinton Foundation and feature images of Democrats like Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York, interspersed with cartoon characters and pictures of Kevin Spacey, who plays the villain in House of Cards. And as they are read and shared, an anti-Clinton narrative is reinforced.
America Rising is not the only conservative group attacking Mrs. Clinton from the left. Another is American Crossroads, the group started by Karl Rove, which has been sending out its own digital content, including one ad using a speech Ms. Warren gave at the New Populism Conference in Washington last May.
---snip---
The idea is to make her life difficult in the primary and challenge her from the left, said Colin Reed, America Risings executive director. We dont want her to enter the general election not having been pushed from the left, so if we have opportunities creative ways, especially online to push her from the left, well do it just to show those folks who she needs to turn out that shes not in line with them.
No one thinks attacking Mrs. Clinton from the left is likely to turn the most liberal Democrats into Republican voters. But Steven Law, president of American Crossroads, said the goal was simply to erode what should be her natural core of support.

What's more, Clinton's popularity hasn't changed among Democrats, who will choose their party's presidential nominee before the general election begins.
Among Democratic primary voters, Clinton's fav/unfav score is 81 percent positive, 6 percent negative - almost identical to March's 82 percent-4 percent rating.
"All of that information [about Clinton] made no fundamental difference to Democratic primary voters," says McInturff, the GOP pollster.
And looking ahead to the general election, Clinton leads Bush, the former Florida governor, by six points (49 percent to 43 percent); Rubio, the Florida senator, by another six points (49 percent to 43 percent); and Walker, the Wisconsin governor by 10 (50 percent to 40 percent).

(4,458 posts)they think any real Lib/Prog would EVER switch to supporting/voting for a Con instead of HRC.
More likely they're aiming for getting us to Leave That Box in Ballot Blank or Stay Home and NOT Vote at All. And their poor hapless GOP base, as has happened in the last three mid-term election cycles...DO turn out and "blind-trust vote" for GOP because it's GOP. It worked in 2010. It worked in 2012. It worked again in 2014. Each time they gain a little bit more. We stay home. We blame each other. The GOP now has a Majority in the Sen And the House. Just the Kochs are investing a Thousand Million Dollar Bills to Conquer The OVAL Office. How much are the other Billionaires Globally Investing in Helping that happen?
That's Why, imo---WE have to SHUT MSM Off. Screen Our Calls. Toss Mailers. Shut Down MSM Corp Radio as we are Driving.
When we see "it". When we hear "it" a "little bit" of it sticks in the back of your mind...at each exposure...the little seed of doubt and anger begins to gain momentum.
Don't allow yourself to be "played". If you're not going to support any candidate, at least do research and inform yourself so you know why.
They have long ago recognized the Dems discontent out here....sucked Dem Pols into "caves, capitulations, compromise"...just enough to keep and grow Our dissatisfaction with our own. Dems still deserve our scorn, our critique. They have Indeed, failed in their job duties, as assigned....but we also need to recognize a different angle and successes of the GOP Corporate charade...
So, I submit, they are instead focusing toward subtlety Discouraging Prog turnout. It is, after-all...a big part of the GOP's winning strategy.

the point of the article is to smear Clinton and weaken her.
As far as the rest of your post, I support the Democratic party and do not think things are as bad as you write.
I believe it is hyperbole and FUD.

(4,458 posts)your input.
I believe you meant GOP?
"if you read the article, it does say they don't expect people to vote switch and vote for Democrats"
I hoped to point out the goal is to discourage Turn Out and/or a vote for HRC left blank.
As far as my opinion about the state of the Dem party. We'll have to agree to disagree.
Those observances depend largely upon individual experiences/personal impact that can and does extend into entire states right on down to the smallest of communities.

(41,832 posts)I can tell most didn't even read the NYTimes article at the link.
The Republicans ADMIT that is what they are doing.
It also gave examples of how some liberals were embarrassed they fell for it.

(297,655 posts)It can diminish enthusiasm for Hillary among the base over time, he said. And if you diminish enthusiasm, lukewarm support can translate into lackluster fund-raising and perhaps diminished turnout down the road.
Oh they wish. But, yeah we've seen it here.. RW sites as sources for anti-Hillary articles.. like they don't have enough without using them.
The same has happened with President Obama over the years.. I've seen it all too often. The right baits the left and the "left" falls for it hook line and sinker.
Except the ones who know better.. and thankfully there are more than a few of us.
But, too many Dems did stay home in 2010 and 2014.. not in 2012 though.

(41,832 posts)When the right goes after Clinton from the left
The fact that far-right groups are going after Hillary Clintons presidential campaign is the most predictable thing in the world. Whats less predictable, however, is how conservatives are deliberately going after the Democratic frontrunner from the left. The New York Times had an interesting report on this over the weekend:
--- snip from the NYTimes article posted above--------
Groups like America Rising and American Crossroads believe, with good reason, that Hillary Clinton has plenty of critics and skeptics among liberal activists. For the right, the goal at this stage of the race is to exploit those divisions, drive a wedge into the progressive cause, and prevent the left from coalescing around the likely Democratic nominee.
To be sure, in most instances, no matter how hostile liberal constituencies may be towards Clinton, these same activists are far more opposed to right-wing organizations, and the left has no interest in being used as pawns by conservative groups.
But therein lies the rub:
America Rising and American Crossroads are careful to leave their names out of it. The goal is to produce anti-Clinton content some liberals might like, while removing far-right fingerprints. Progressive activists and groups might balk and disseminating Republicans anti-Clinton messages, so the key is to get the left to do this unknowingly.
