Lots of Undecideds so lots of work to do to GOTV, hopefully we got some good momentum out of last night, too.

(12,631 posts)I was going to vote for Sanders because my heart is really in the place he is in, although I think Hillary is more competent and experienced. But after reading the back-stabbing viciousness of the Bernie supporters on this site (not that I blame Bernie for it) I just didn't have the heart to vote for him and appear to be on the same side they are on.
Fortunately for these Bernie partisans, most dems don't read this site (I hardly do anymore), but they would be shocked and dismayed and I'm sure many, like me, would be so repulsed they would turn their backs on them and their candidate.

(2,586 posts)I have supported Bernie since he first announced and made multiple "small" (in comparative terms -- none over $50) donations, including recently. But I know that primary season as in 08 things can really heat up in places like DU. That is NO reason not to vote for the candidate you like best -- just as Madeleine Albright (who I will never forgive her 'well if the Iraqi people don't like thousands of civilian deaths from sanctions they should overthrow Saddam' attitude in the 90s) shouldn't be the reason anyone decides to abandon Hillary for Bernie. There are always people you will find offensive in any movement, whether it is opposing the Vietnam and Iraq Wars, opposing nuclear energy, insisting on policies sufficient to stave off runaway global warming etc. This is legitimately a 'fact of life'.
One VERY good reason for someone in your position to vote for Bernie is this: as the chances of his securing the nomination decline (someone knowledgeable suggested he would need to win as many as 70% of the remaining pledged delegates to win the nomination, a virtually insurmountable bar), it really is crucial that he have the STRONGEST showing possible, to maximize progressive leverage at the convention & beyond within the party (as distinct from judgment of the individual candidate -- tho I do like Bernie better), and the future basis for progressive organizing.
Concrete demands could include opposition to "closed" primaries, rather than mixed or open ones. One of Bernie's (and any progressive insurgent's) problems is that, like Barack Obama, his strong edge among Independents voting in the primaries is precluded in the many states coming up that are open ONLY to registered Democrats. These states include CT, NY, NJ, PA, and MD. Another goal would be to replace Debbie Wasserman Schultz with someone at least an honest broker between the neoliberal and progressive wings of the Democratic Party (and insisting on that standard for future chairs). Platform demands could include on issues like global warming -- specific and concrete ones not just general language, even relatively limited specific demands like nationally televised Senate hearings on global warming including a major focus on the model of Jim Hansen and others (350.org) that we are already WELL PAST the tipping point and at or near a point of no return for runaway global warming. Voting for Bernie at this point can accomplish much that merely adding to Hillary's vote would not
