Will President Obama endorse Hillary Clinton after she wins New York?

Last edited Sat Apr 9, 2016, 07:00 AM - Edit history (1)

http://www.dailynewsbin.com/opinion/will-president-obama-endorse-hillary-clinton-after-she-wins-new-york/24408/

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton watches as President Barack Obama signs a Presidential memorandum, "Coordination of Policies and Programs to Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women and Girls Globally," in the Oval Office, Jan. 20, 2013. (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza) This official White House photograph is being made available only for publication by news organizations and/or for personal use printing by the subject(s) of the photograph. The photograph may not be manipulated in any way and may not be used in commercial or political materials, advertisements, emails, products, promotions that in any way suggests approval or endorsement of the President, the First Family, or the White House.Ê

Hillary Clinton has been the de facto Democratic Party nominee since March 15th, and President Obama has clearly had enough of the sore-loser antics of Bernie Sanders. Even as her lead has grown to hundreds of delegates and millions of votes – with most of the nation having already voted – Sanders is dragging out his failed campaign for no clear reason other than to take bitter pot shots at Clinton on his way down. Obama has grown so sick of the embarrassing behavior on the part of Bernie and his most egregious followers, he compared them to the Tea Party this week. But when will Obama formally endorse Clinton and put the dying Sanders campaign out of its misery? It may be sooner than you think.

President Obama clearly wants to endorse Hillary Clinton right now, so the two of them can move forward with the fight against Donald Trump and the republicans. But because Sanders has won a few meaningless small states in a row that he was always expected to win, his camp is falsely claiming it has “momentum” right now. It’s given false hope to his supporters, and prevented many of them from grabbing a calculator long enough to figure out that Sanders is duping them; in reality he was effectively eliminated from the race weeks ago.
So Obama can’t make his move right now, because the increasingly dishonest Sanders campaign would merely spin it into yet another sore-loser conspiracy: “Even the President is out to get us!” They would also falsely spin it as a sign of “weakness” or “desperation” on the part of Hillary Clinton, even though she’s blowing Sanders out by more than two million votes. But the New York primary looms, giving Obama an opportunity.

Hillary Clinton is leading in every New York poll by a comfortable margin. And because its closed primary system can’t be manipulated by Sanders or his fans in the same way as an open primary like Michigan, there are no games to be played here. Once Clinton wins New York comfortably, any phony talk of Sanders having “momentum” will go out the window. That means President Obama will have the all-clear to endorse Hillary and push Bernie off the stage for good. Will he? That remains to be seen after April 19th.

"The White House Just Took Hillary Clinton's Side in Her Latest Fight with Bernie Sanders"

The White House came to the defense of Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton on Thursday, one day after rival Bernie Sanders charged that the former secretary of state is "not qualified" to serve as president.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One as President Barack Obama flew to Chicago, deputy press secretary Eric Schultz said that contra Sanders, Obama sees his 2008 primary opponent as a qualified successor.

Clinton "comes to the race with more experience than any non-vice president" in recent history, Schultz said, according to a pool report.

Schultz added that Obama was "fortunate" that Clinton agreed to become his chief diplomat after the two bitterly sparred during the 2008 primaries.

I wondered before if something might happen and President Obama would have to speak up for Hillary before the actual nomination.. and it's not over yet.

Thank you, Iamaartist .. berni set himself up for that.

Sitting Presidents don't endorse until the outcome is certain for fear of charges of partisanship.

He'll continue to work more subtly behind the scenes, gently encouraging Clinton. But he won't openly endorse until she's the presumptive nominee without any question--after California and DC in June.

At this point an official endorsement doesn't even seem to matter--everyone knows he does support Hillary, and most people realize she is by far the most qualified candidate on the scene.
Unfortunately, too many people are bowing to peer groups' wishes and going along. There are Republicans that will actually vote for Cruz or trump, even though they hate them--just to support their disintegrating party. Some have even openly admitted that Hillary Clinton is more qualified than anyone else.
And the millennials are no different--Bernie is a youth movement--go figure!

The difference this time is that Bernie isn't a party member. The rules just don't apply to him. President Obama is really good at figuring out the right time to do things. He and his advisers are actually geniuses of timing. He will endorse at the optimum intersection of "Keeping as many Bernie voters as possible" and "Starting the general election as early as possible".
