What is the HRC response to....

... the "sniper fire" flap. There's a new post in GDP about it. I searched for "sniper" in CorrectRecord.org but didn't find anything. Does anyone know? I've been assuming a mis-perception, but really have never seen anything. Good to have a response when canvassing.

She didn't blow them off for her own safety, but met them briefly. Don't have a link, just remember the story and how stupid it was to make a big deal of it and allow it to reach the stature of an urban myth.

That said, the situation Hillary Clinton encountered at the base was most likely far less sanitized than what she was used to as First Lady. The Secret Service probably did stress the sniper threat (since it's their job) and probably did brief her to act accordingly. As a result, she was probably under the impression that her surroundings were quite a bit riskier than actual, because as far as she knew, they were. Not necessarily a confabulation, but perhaps a mistaken impression based on a difference in the degree of protection available to her in a warzone versus, say, everywhere else the First Lady goes. I don't think Clinton's intent was to gain street cred, but rather, to give an example of when her role as First Ladt involved more than what is typically expected.

I do know that the next day she corrected "under sniper fire" to "under threat of sniper fire". And said she mispoke.

I think this was a little bit of a misspeak...so ok, our candidate isn't Jesus.

We are a feet on the ground, reality based yet INSPIRING campaign.

There are soooo many smears to wade through, it sucks...

But what does she say...FORWARD!

I'm not surprised at all, and thanks, I hadn't looked that one up yet. Sick of this BS... One of the dumbest is, I think, the whole Goldwater Girl thing... Who cares what she did when she was 16? How petty can the smears get? Who on earth would care that she was a Republican when she was 16 years old!

She was a teenager FFS!

But any ammo will do for them, eh?

... when she was morphing into a Democrat. The thing is, she was a Goldwater Girl for moral reasons. She just hadn't yet gotten the education about how to care for people the way she wanted to.

about the Pope's invitation. We'll probably wait a VERY long time to hear that, in fact.

No, Hillary isn't perfect. But she does at least admit when she is wrong.

I think being able to admit when you're wrong is an admirable human quality.

Hillary is an admirable human, IMO

Clinton mentions being told that all planes landing in that area took evasive action "in case of sniper fire".

Later she changed that to "because of sniper fire". It might just be a wording mistake or a memory error. But it does unfortunately look like self aggrandizement.

... are you suggesting that later editions of the book changed? Or just comments after it was published. Given what I've seen here, it seems like a normal response from a protected civilian in a totally unusual situation. Unfortunately that's too nuanced for an American presidential campaign....
