Hillary Clinton

... the "sniper fire" flap. There's a new post in GDP about it. I searched for "sniper" in CorrectRecord.org but didn't find anything. Does anyone know? I've been assuming a mis-perception, but really have never seen anything. Good to have a response when canvassing.

(32,623 posts)She didn't blow them off for her own safety, but met them briefly. Don't have a link, just remember the story and how stupid it was to make a big deal of it and allow it to reach the stature of an urban myth.

(685 posts)I do know that the next day she corrected "under sniper fire" to "under threat of sniper fire". And said she mispoke.

(13,783 posts)... how such smears persist in the mind of even such staunch Hillary supporters as myself!

(685 posts)I think this was a little bit of a misspeak...so ok, our candidate isn't Jesus.
We are a feet on the ground, reality based yet INSPIRING campaign.
There are soooo many smears to wade through, it sucks...
But what does she say...FORWARD!

(718 posts)I'm not surprised at all, and thanks, I hadn't looked that one up yet. Sick of this BS... One of the dumbest is, I think, the whole Goldwater Girl thing... Who cares what she did when she was 16? How petty can the smears get? Who on earth would care that she was a Republican when she was 16 years old!

(685 posts)That Goldwater girl still gets me riled
She was a teenager FFS!
But any ammo will do for them, eh?

(718 posts)For some yeah... Anything they can get, or make up, for that matter.

(4,640 posts)who was close to her father, who was a staunch Republican. A lot of people FORGET that part. That she was just a kid.

(13,783 posts)... when she was morphing into a Democrat. The thing is, she was a Goldwater Girl for moral reasons. She just hadn't yet gotten the education about how to care for people the way she wanted to.

(15,369 posts)about the Pope's invitation. We'll probably wait a VERY long time to hear that, in fact.
No, Hillary isn't perfect. But she does at least admit when she is wrong.
HillareeeHillaraah
(685 posts)I think being able to admit when you're wrong is an admirable human quality.
Hillary is an admirable human, IMO

(2,472 posts)Clinton mentions being told that all planes landing in that area took evasive action "in case of sniper fire".
Later she changed that to "because of sniper fire". It might just be a wording mistake or a memory error. But it does unfortunately look like self aggrandizement.
LAS14
(13,783 posts)... are you suggesting that later editions of the book changed? Or just comments after it was published. Given what I've seen here, it seems like a normal response from a protected civilian in a totally unusual situation. Unfortunately that's too nuanced for an American presidential campaign....
