bringing teachers to the people all over the country, even as the Cuban opposition launched a program to terrorize, even kill these young teachers as they spread out, going to farms, individual houses, bringing lanterns to teach their young and OLD new students at the end of the day after their work was done.

They could not have worked harder, they could never have been more committed, and the result was astonishing. The people who had been deprived of the chance for education before the revolution were eager and enthusiastic students who didn't need any encouragement.

All this done under the daily threat from the bully from the north. What would have paralyzed many people with fear only made Cubans stronger.
