Device explodes near home of Honduran president
Aug 2, 11:21 AM EDT

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) -- Honduran police say a device tossed from a moving car exploded 100 yards (meters) from the home of President Porfirio Lobo.

Police say Lobo was at the home on the outskirts of Tegucigalpa with his wife and three children, but all were unharmed.

Police said in a statement Friday that no one was injured in the midnight blast, and there was no damage. The bomb squad is determining what kind of device it was.

It wasn't clear if the explosive was meant as an attack on the president.

Lobo, whose term ends in January, has twice warned that his enemies were conspiring to oust him in a coup. His standoff with the Supreme Court over police reform last year, and the subsequent removal of judges, caused a near governmental crisis.
