Venezuelan General Wilmer Moreno killed

Unofficial sources said that some people approached the military official, asked who he was and when he answered he was shot.

The news was posted on social networks. Sources claimed that Moreno was shot 10 times, but other reports clarified that he was shot seven times.

Moreno was a close collaborator of the current Venezuelan government. He played a role in the attempted coup of 2002, which sought to overthrow then President Carlos Andrés Pérez.

...

People close to the Venezuelan government claimed that Moreno was killed by hired assassins.

Venezuelan source since you get called a "right wingnut" by the uninformed if you post El Universal: http://www.patriagrande.com.ve/temas/venezuela/ministerio-publico-investiga-muerte-general-wilmer-moreno-anzoategui/

Sadly I think this is a precursor to things to come. I think Chavez is in bad shape. The rumor mill is going nuts over Venezuela, but I don't post rumor sources here.

President Chavez the best in his battle. My thoughts are that he has done more for his people than any past leaders of venezuela.

But the rumor mill is flying because there hasn't been a peep from him since last Saturday.

I'm glad that this prick had been killed because that swine was involved with drug cartels and organized crime, maybe he was messing with the interests of a “colleague” in the Venezuelan government.

Don't they mean 1992 here:

And yes I think they meant 1992.

The real question is, why now? The possibilities are pretty complex.

The rumor mill in Venezuela is going crazy.

But lots of other options and not much info. Most likely we'll never know.

If Chavez dies in the coming days or weeks and then the top generals in Venezuela form a junta, then you will have a good idea why he was taken out.

If Chavez dies and that doesn't happen (the elections proceed as usual and the chavistas pick a different candidate) then you can rule out a power play.

But he seems like the sort of guy who would have a lot of enemies, and this is the time to make your move, if you had some move in mind.

I am starting to think it's going to be a "hot" year this year, all over the World, lots of bad shit going down.

I do think Chavez has been good for his people and it will be a loss when he passes. I don't like this assassination one bit, looks like folks are jockeying for power already.

The question is who was behind it, as I believe there are quite a few possibilities on the table and not all are a given. Both the opposition and chavistas have something to gain from such a hit.

"Chavez needs help walking": Marquina\

The only thing new I've confirmed is that President Chavez is very sore, gets out of bed with assistance and walk very slowly using a cane. This is because the tumor has invaded part of the left hip and that has generated considerable discomfort.

...

"According to the size of the tumor, currently, cancer cells are doubling every 17 days," he said.

...

"If his advisers and family asked my professional opinion, I would recommend to colleagues feel better able to address their situation, both in Venezuela and the United States," he said.

Google translation. I have found these predictions to be quite accurate. The source is a Colombian magazine called Semana, and is used regularly here by other posters: http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semana_(Colombia)
