The A-37B would serve as a stopgap until the FAU selects a new fighter
IHS Jane's has learned from local sources that the Uruguayan Air Force (FAU) is considering a deal to acquire four Cessna A-37B Dragonfly combat aircraft from the Ecuadorian Air Force (FAE) as an interim measure because of the lack of a government decision on procuring a new fighter.
FAU has operated the A-37B Dragonfly as its main fighter since 1976. The service's six A-37B Dragonfly aircraft were augmented by two former US Air Force (USAF) O/A-37B aircraft in 1988 and six more in 1989.
