Colombias second largest criminal organization has released a pamphlet calling for the assassination of presidential and congressional candidates of Colombian left-wing political parties, the Patriotic Union (Union Patriotica UP) and the Patriotic March (Marcha Patriotica MP).
Los Rastrojos, formerly Colombias most powerful criminal organization, has released a pamphlet placing bounties on the heads of prominent members of the left-wing political parties UP and Marcha Patriotica, including the UP presidential candidate Aida Avella and former senator Piedad Cordoba, local media reported on Monday. The UP has historically been a bloody target for its enemies.
They have already given us the explicit order to neutralize the Patriotic Union (UP) candidates to the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies in the entire country, the pamphlet reads.
Especially for the head of Aida Avella, Homer Calderon, Carlos Lozano and Jaime Caycedo. For these first persons, the Command that takes them down will receive a reward of up to 50 million pesos (US$25,000).
The death pamphlet also asserts that Los Rastrojos will be targeting leading figures of the Patriotic March a leftist political movement founded by Piedad Cordoba, which has also seen at least 30 member systematically killed since its formation less than two years ago.

One of our newest trading partners.
Obama signed a Free Trade Deal with Colombia.
He was aware of the death and destruction that union members faced in Colombia.
Obama signed anyway.
That should send a message to US union workers.
P.S. Obama never found his walking shoes when Wisconsin teachers were marching in the streets.
Hello Judi,
I hope you and all those you love are doing well.

Sure hope this is the year things will start going better faster for the people of the Americas.
Great year, so far, and I hope it will be worth the wait for you and yours, as well! People of good will have worked to make it happen, to bring light, truth, peace back to life.

Colombias Ministry of Internal Affairs announced Monday that additional security measures have been implemented to protect opposition politicians, in light of the death threats issued against leaders of social movements and left-wing political parties by one of Colombias largest neo-paramilitary organizations.
The National Protection Units (UNP) extra security measures come in response to a pamphlet emailed over the weekend to various members of left-wing political parties the Patriotic Union (Union Patriotica UP) and the Patriotic March (Marcha Patriotica MP) and the Mesa Agropecuaria Popular de Interlocución y Acuerdos (MIA) farmers movement, supposedly by members of the countrys formerly most powerful criminal organization, Los Rastrojos.
The pamphlet offers a reward of between $5,000 and $25,000 for the assassination of a number of presidential and congressional candidates, including presidential candidate Aida Avella of the recently reformed UP party, former Senator and MP founder Piedad Cordoba, and the Secretary General of the Colombian Communist Party, Jaime Caycedo.

Lozano drew a link between the present situation and the political persecution suffered by the UP during the 1980s and 1990s, during which thousands of their members were systematically murdered by a combination of state forces, paramilitary groups and drug traffickers. The comparison has become newly relevant in recent weeks, with a gruesome incident of alleged police abuse against a Communist Party member and the announcement by MP founder Piedad Cordoba that her party may have to disband due to the apparent targeting of party members for assassination.
