Uruguayan President's Approval Rating Rises

Uruguayan President's Approval Rating Rises

MONTEVIDEO, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- Uruguay's President Jose Mujica's approval rating rose two percentage points between August and September to 62 percent, Xinhua news agency reports citing local media.

A survey conducted by Cifra shows the number of people who disliked Mujica fell to 15 percent, down from 22 percent in August.

Around 23 percent of respondents said they held no opinion about Mujica.

Approval for the left-leaning president's handling of government affairs rose from 52 percent to 58 percent, while disapproval of his management style fell from 30 percent to 23 percent.

Uruguayans will go to the polls Oct 26 to elect a new president.

Although 79-year-old Mujica is barred from running for a third consecutive term, the ratings are good news for his ruling party Broad Front.
