Police officer arrested in teen's death at Venezuela protest

Police officer arrested in teen's death at Venezuela protest
VENEZUELA PROTESTS | 25 de febrero de 2015

Caracas, Feb 24 (EFE).- A police officer was arrested Tuesday afternoon for his alleged involvement in the death of a 14-year-old boy during a demonstration in the western Venezuelan city of San Cristobal, Interior Minister Carmen Melendez announced.

"An officer with the Bolivarian National Police was arrested for presumably being linked to the incident, saying he had fired one shot at the student with a shotgun (loaded with) rubber bullets ... He was immediately turned over to the Public Ministry to establish responsibility," Melendez told state-run VTV television by telephone.

The Public Ministry reported shortly before that statement in a communique that it would indict Officer Javier Mora Ortiz, 23, for his supposed link to the death of the boy.

The minister also said that the teen, Kliver Roa, died in the Barrio Obrero sector of the city "during the protests" on Tuesday there after being wounded in the back of the head about 11 a.m.

Venezuela teen killed during anti-government protest
By Javier Faria

SAN CRISTOBAL, Venezuela Tue Feb 24, 2015 9:45pm GMT

(Reuters) - A teenager was killed during a protest in the western city of San Cristobal on Tuesday, state officials said, as tensions rise in Venezuela amid an economic crisis and a government crackdown on the political opposition.

Kluiver Roa, 14, died in unclear circumstances during violent clashes between around 20 hooded protesters and police near the home of Tachira's ruling party governor, according to the head of citizen security for the state.

"At one point these hooded protesters intercepted four police officers, snatched their motorbikes and to get rid of the protesters, one of the officials shot at the ground," Colonel Ramon Cabezas told reporters.

"When the protesters scattered... we saw the students lifting the body of this youngster from beneath a car, we don't know for now how he got there."

Interesting. By the way, this is the same murder that Bacchus posted about in this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/110837854

So are you still gonna be spewing Vielma Mora's blatant BS now? Or are you gonna continue with your game and say probably that the murdering cop was bought by the CIA/right-wing/Alvaro Uribe/what-have-you?

Why, YES, YES they DID!

But of course, you're not gonna criticize this even after it's caused the death of an unarmed 14-year-old. You have to defend this government no matter what, even if they violate basic human rights.
