Jacob Zuma

Cuba’s revolution withstood every possible onslaught over decades and has been a triumph of the human spirit, writes President Jacob Zuma

"The revolution will not be televised." An African-American poet uttered those words at the height of the struggle for US civil rights.
Revolutionaries adopt an approach to their historical reality opposed to that of an audience of a TV programme with a set timetable.

Revolutionaries don’t sit by the wayside and observe history unfold as removed yet curious observers with no obligation, but rather as those who work.

Revolutionaries are not merely an audience to history unfolding on a predetermined and predicted time period, but are active agents of change engaged in a conscious effort to change the world; to bring about a new society.

A revolutionary lives his life no longer solely in service of his individual wants and needs but understands his existence as inextricably connected to that of his fellow men, whose social welfare cannot be dissociated from his.

1. Mentioning Cuba and "triumph of the human spirit" in the same breath is criminally stupid, IMO

I hope that I'm misunderstanding his intent completely, and that Jacob Zuma is being ironic, or satirical here -- otherwise he's an idiot. For more than 50 years people have been lashing themselves to anything that floats, and praying for a current to take them to Miami. Those thousands weren't fleeing a triumphant beacon of humanity. They were fleeing tyranny!

Living under the yoke of Koch is better than Castro -- and that's saying something.

4. Cubans already lived under the yoke of a Koch-like dictator.

They threw him out decades ago and put socialism in its place. Check up on your history before making such nonsensical statements.

5. Didn't say they didn't have a previous dictator -- only that I prefer dictators we have to Castro

3. Mr. Zuma is expressing the same gratitude for Cuba

that Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu and millions of South African's expressed for Cuba's fight against Apartheid South Africa for nearly 20 years during the Angolan Civil War, while the US was more than happily funding the terrorist Apartheid machine. If only Cuba-haters were more concerned with that.

6. Cuba haters supported apartheid, too, like Dick Cheney. Basic insane racists.

If they could even stir themselves to find out about Cuba history, and Cuban/US history, they would be overwhelmed with shame for their bone deep ignorance and stupidity.
