Venezuela ‘didn’t violate Colombian airspace’

Venezuela ‘didn’t violate Colombian airspace’

VENEZUELA’S Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez denied Colombia’s claims on Sunday that military planes from her country had violated Colombian airspace.

Bogota alleged that its air force had detected two Venezuelan military aircraft over the northern Guajira peninsula near the town of Maico — a mere two miles inside Colombian territory.

A narrow strip of the peninsula’s eastern coast is Venezuelan territory.

The allegation comes at a time of heightened tensions between the two South American countries over Venezuela’s closure of several key border crossings.

“There is no evidence of the alleged violation of the airspace of our neighbouring country, more than an invention to frustrate a presidential meeting,” Ms Rodriguez wrote on Twitter.
