Medellin massively marches for peace, telling Colombia ‘Antioquia is not Uribe’

Medellin massively marches for peace, telling Colombia ‘Antioquia is not Uribe’

written by Adriaan Alsema October 8, 2016

Medellin, which convincingly voted ‘No’ to peace with the FARC in a referendum only five days earlier, massively took to the street to demand peace on Friday.

The march was the latest of a series of marches held throughout Colombia in response to the abrupt suspension of the already started peace process that plunged the country in a political and public security crisis unseen since the 1990s.

. . .

Even Uribe himself could face charges for spreading lies in his years-long attempt to sink the process that seeks to end 52 years of violence between the state and the FARC, and embark on 10-year peace process that seeks major investments in the countryside, curb political exclusion and increase efforts to curb political violence.

More seriously even, Colombia’s chief prosecutor reiterated his predecessor’s request the Supreme Court open a criminal investigation into the former president’s alleged involvement in a 1997 massacre and broadly alleged ties to paramilitary death squads.
