Guatemala to Hold First International Marimba Festival


Guatemala, Feb 21 (Prensa Latina) The Efrain Recinos Hall at the Cultural Center Miguel Angel Asturias will be the venue to the First International Marimba Festival in Guatemala, from February 23-26, the Ministry of Culture and sports in this country reported today.

According to a press release by that ministry, the National Symphony Orchestra will give the opening concert of the festival, which was organized on the occasion of a month devoted to the cult of that emblematic instrument in this Central American country.

The National Fine Arts Concert Marimba, the organizer of the event, and Japanese marimba player Kelko Kotocu will participate in the festival opening.

1. When I was in college during my first year in the band

we had a concert performance with a young lady who played marimba and was a recent graduate at Southwestern University. She was able to play very difficult pieces with fast tempos using four mallets. It would be cool if she was aware of this festival since she was the most talented percussionist that I ever performed with during my years as a musician.
