Teacher changes her hairstyle to help bullied girl in class

Teacher changes her hairstyle to help bullied girl in class
SEAN MORRISON 3 hours ago

A Brazilian teacher came up with a unique way to help a school girl who was being bullied at school because of her hairstyle.

Ana Barabara Ferreira, from Sao Paulo, said her student was sad as she was being ridiculed by a boy in her class who had said her hair was “ugly.”

"At that moment, the only thing I could tell her was that she was wonderful and shouldn't care about what he was saying," she wrote in a Facebook post that went viral.

But the following morning the bullied girl’s teacher decided to do something that has warmed the hearts of the tens of thousands of people who share her post.

Has the boy been taught to be a racist at home, or is he just plain mean?

Brazil is very diverse, my daughter is married to a Brazilian who has very light skin from his Portugese dad's side, but his brother takes after the mom who's Indian/Black, so lots of families are like this and are a beautiful rainbow of colors.

One of my Black/Latina students had what, to me, was a heartbreaking conversation with another about her hairstyle for her firt professional photo. She wanted to leave her hair in its beautiful naturally curly state. Her mother was berating her for (and trying to change) that choice because in moms opinion hair needs to be straight because curly hair is not professional.

that straight hair is better. She doesn't like her mother's or grandmother's "fluffy" hair and said something like "you know there's something you can do about that." (They know and they like their hair the way it is. So does her Dad.)

Right now she has perfectly smooth loose curls, but if she's like her relatives, they'll change to tight and frizzy some day.

And then she'll hate her own hair.
