At the point of perdigones repressed protest by pernil in Altagracia de Orituco
December 7, 2018

Nayrobis Rodríguez 7 Dec 2018.- With shots of pellets at demonstrators, National Guard officials repressed the protest of the inhabitants of the Camoruco sector, in Altagracia de Orituco, Guárico state.

According to the portal NTN24 in a note, the neighbors demanded the sale of pork to the national government.

Twitter users reported that the main reason for the protest was to refuse to sell only one kilogram of pork to each family. "Urgent: In Altagracia de Orituco protest was suppressed because supposedly the pernil would not be delivered completely, as previously announced, but chopped and shared," denounced @LuisConstant .

"While you at a press conference say something else, who do we believe," highlights part of a tweet from the user Marlis Cova directed to Nicolás Maduro.

It should be noted that the protests for pork began in December 2017 and that the announcement of the sale of this food, by the national government, generated demonstrations during the first week of December 2018. So far this month they have been reported similar protests in Bolívar, Yaracuy, Anzoátegui and Sucre.

Backstory. Traditionally, over the winter holidays, Venezuelans celebrate with pernil, (ham legs) hallacas, (stuffed corn pastries) and beer. However, since about 2007, things have been spiraling down the economic shitter in Venezuela and not even the very wealthy can find the ingredients, let alone afford such things. Naturally, Chavismo has said it will "provide"... only now it has to provide for 85% of the population and it cannot. So, the "new Chavista deal" is to cut the rations in half and double the cost. Naturally, the Chavistas blame (fill in the blank), but never their own incompetence and corruption
