Venezuela calls U.S. comments on Guyana dispute 'interventionist'

CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuela’s foreign ministry on Tuesday described as “interventionist and disrespectful” U.S. comments on a weekend incident in which the country’s navy stopped two ships exploring for oil for Exxon Mobil (XOM.N) off Guyana’s coast.

Each of the neighboring South American countries says the incident on Saturday occurred within its territorial waters. In response to the event, the U.S. State Department said Venezuela had behaved “aggressively” and called on the country to “respect international law and the rights of its neighbors.”

“It is evident that the U.S. government is interfering in a matter that is not at all incumbent upon it, with the goal of promoting corporate interests closely linked to the Washington ruling elite,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.

Socialist President Nicolas Maduro has accused the United States of plotting to invade Venezuela and overthrow his government, while Washington has placed sanctions on Venezuela’s debt and members of Maduro’s government over accusations of corruption, human rights violations and election-rigging.

He is doing everything he can to instigate an incident, because that is his only OUT of the mess he has created in Venezuela. Things are so shitty there that now his top Chavista generals are abandoning Venezuela (with planes full of dollars), because they can't even pump out oil (PdVSA is run by the military now) in order to sell it and steal the profits!

Maduro is so desperate, that he has been having his military helicopters fly over Colombian urban border areas "by mistake" (which he then denies even occurred, despite video evidence). Maduro claims all sorts of maritime areas in Colombia, despite nobody else in the world recognizing it. He invited the Marxist FARC and ELN into Venezuela, and when these murderers killed Maduros own military in raids, he blames "Colombian" paramilitaries... without a second thought that HE ALLOWED AND WELCOMED THE MURDERS IN!

Maduro also claims that 2/3 of Guyana belongs to Venezuela, despite Venezuela ceding these lands in arbitration over 100 years ago. Guyana essentially has no military (other than some guys working in the military credit union), so Venezuela has taken to sending its ships into Guyanese waters to unilaterally claim it for themselves. Venezuela CRAVES a US military vessel in the area so he can start some shit.
