Lights, sequins, samba: Rio carnival at the Sambadrome in pictures
From giant turtles to Roman centurions, Rio de Janeiro’s two nights of carnival parades at the Sambadrome Marquês de Sapucaí began in a burst of fireworks and continued with the cheers of thousands of tourists and locals who also enjoyed street celebrations all around the city
