Jair Bolsonaro's decision to join protesters calling for the closure of Congress and the Supreme Federal Court sparked a coordinated independent reaction from Congress and the Supreme Court.

At the request of the Supreme Court President, Dias Toffoli, and Supreme Court Judge Luiz Fux, Presidents Rodrigo Maia (Congress, DEM-RJ) and Davi Alcolumbre (Senate, DEM-AP) received on Monday (16) the Minister of Health, Luiz Henrique Mandetta, to discuss measures about the novel coronavirus pandemic.

On Sunday (15), Bolsonaro surprised people when he appeared at Praça dos Três Poderes, breaching isolation orders he was under for having contact with infected people on his trip to the U.S. He fraternized with members of the protest. Throughout the day, he shared social media posts in support of the protest.

Politicians and infectologists criticized him, given that at this moment, the official recommendation is to avoid agglomerations and physical contact. He responded by saying that he could do whatever he liked and denied that he was attacking other branches of government.
