So Paulo Registers First Coronavirus Death
State investigates four other deaths; Bolsonaro asks Congress to recognize public calamity in the country

The city of São Paulo recorded its first death due to the coronavirus—a 62-year-old man who had diabetes and hypertension. Officials are investigating another four deaths.
The patient had been in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of Hospital Sancta Maggiore, in Paradise, since Saturday (14) and died on Monday (16). He had no history of traveling abroad.

The number of confirmed cases in the country rose from 234 to 291 - 164 in SP. It also increased from 2,064 to 8,819, the number of records under investigation. In all, 16 states and DF have patients.
The Minister of Health, Luiz Henrique Mandetta, said that the country should face the peak of cases between 60 and 90 days. The estimate is that they will increase from April to June and will only stabilize from July.
At night, the Jair Bolsonaro government announced that it will ask Congress to recognize a state of public calamity, which will allow the government to exceed the fiscal budget.

Best wishes to the phenomenal poster(s) from São Paulo who posted here, communicating with her fellow progressives, bringing outstanding information to us regarding details of politics, politicians, outstanding Brazilian people, images taken from personal life which made things seem as real as possible for those of us who looked forward to each post. We saw street level images taken in the night-time when they had a rare snowstorm and people ran out in the dark to celebrate the event, photos from demonstrations, news revealing behavior of politicians, newspapers, etc., etc., etc.
Why did this incredible flow of information straight from São Paulo end? She was harassed hatefully, non-stop by some right-wing trolls who wouldn't allow her to communicate with us without being the target of an all-out effort to ridicule, to intimidate, to bully her to the point she became short with them several times, they kept alerting on her, and she finally left. They attacked her relentlessly, as they have some U.S. American progressives who posted in this forum, and it became a shooting gallery at progressives rather than a place people could easily communicate, exchange information, thoughts, ask questions. Each and every one was driven away.
The São Paulo poster(s) was without equal. It was a bitter pill to take, knowing it was a clear case of evil beating down a person of character, of value, a person anyone would be proud to know.
