Carlos Ardila Lulle is Colombias fourth richest man, according to Forbes, whose financial growth in the 1990s has been marred by allegations of being a major sponsor of paramilitary death squads.
Ardilas news media became controversial after they were used by leaders of paramilitary AUC to justify terrorism. Several of Colombias most controversial and notoriously dishonest journalists spent much of their career with Ardilas news media.
Ardila controls much of the food chain of his food an beverage industry, from sugar plantation to sugary drinks. The controversial oligarch has been at odds for occupying indigenous lands for sugar plantation and has been scolded for using indigenous children suffering malnutrition as human Guinea pigs for one of his products.
