Peru bus crash kills 27 miners on their way home from work

Posted 2h hours ago, updated 1h hour ago

A bus carrying mineworkers has ran off a road in Peru, leaving at least 27 people dead, according to local officials and the mining company.

The bus, which had been hired by a local mining company, fell about 200 metres down a ravine in the middle of the night.

Fire Department Lieutenant Hugo Meza said the accident in the province of Lucanas left dead and injured passengers scattered along the hillside.

At least 13 people were injured.

Video footage from the scene showed an overturned bus with the roof and windows smashed in, laying on the side of a mountain below the notoriously dangerous road in the south of the country.

. . .

Those aboard the bus were heading from the Pallancata gold and silver mine to the city of Arequipa.

Pallancata mine

You could get killed either in the mine, or on the death-defying bus ride home.

If you make it back to Arequipa, El Misti volcano might explode!
