Accused of corruption, Paraguay's vice president changes his position and remains in office

Paraguay’s vice president, Hugo Velázquez, announced to the media on Thursday his decision to remain in office, at least for the time being, as the second man in Parliament.

The politician indicated that he will hold this position until he is in possession of the concrete accusation based on which the U.S. State Department accuses him of being “corrupt to a significant degree.”

On August 12, he announced his resignation as the Colorado Party candidate for president of the Republic and his immediate resignation from the post of vice president after being sanctioned by the U.S. government for alleged corruption cases.

“I have official confirmation that the Paraguayan Prosecutor General’s Office is not investigating me in any way, and unofficially that there is no investigation in the United States either,” he said.

Health buys masks in record time from a company of friends of Hugo Velázquez

20 May, 2020 - 16:41

Just 48 hours ago, Roque Santacruz, an Olimpia footballer and a veteran of the National Team, announced investing in a national company. Specifically, it is the company "Flavors of America" owned by Ricardo Galeano and Walid Amine Sneid (main photo), both friends of Vice President Hugo Velázquez and also close to Javier Zacarías Irún, national senator for the Colorado Party.

This same company sold two million masks to Itaipu Binational at the request of the Ministry of Health a few days ago. Of which the first load consisting of 50% of the total, has already been delivered (see supporting photo).

The striking thing is that the company was dedicated to the sale of vapers but decided to change its field just a few weeks ago. Moreover, the machine for creating the masks was only imported on April 30, 20 days ago. And according to information from the Association of Industrial Manufacturers (ACIC), in the specifications of the document, it only appears that it has the capacity to produce between 3,000 and 5,000 masks per day.

Then the question arises as to why a new company in the field is chosen for such an important purchase and the main thing, where did the one million masks already purchased by Itaipu come from? Since it is impossible that in this number of days so many are produced according to the capacity of the machine.
