Supreme Court Takes Down Videos in Which Bolsonaro Lies to Ambassadors

The Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) determined that videos of the presentation made by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to dozens of foreign ambassadors in July this year, at Palácio da Alvorada, be taken off the internet. On the occasion, the president repeated conspiracy theories about electronic ballot boxes, discredited the electoral system, attacked Justices of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), and promoted new coup-oriented threats.
Adopting a meek tone, as if seeking to give a layer of seriousness to yet another set of inferences, without evidence or clues, to the electoral system, the President focused his criticism on Justices Alexandre de Moraes, Edson Fachin, and Luís Roberto Barroso, accusing the group of trying to bring instability to the country. Fachin was then Chief Justice of the TSE. Barroso presided over the electoral court, and Moraes was already foreseen as the name that would be in charge of the court during the elections.
The decision, rendered on Tuesday (23), is signed by Justice Mauro Campbell, Inspector General of the Electoral Justice. The Justice ordered the removal of videos posted on Bolsonaro's Instagram and Facebook accounts under penalty of being charged with a crime of disobedience.
The decision complies with a request made by PDT, Ciro Gomes' party, who accused the ticket of Jair Bolsonaro and his vice candidate, Walter Braga Netto, of abuse of political power and misuse of social media channels. "No one is allowed to convey out-of-context information with unfounded attacks on the electronic voting system and on democracy itself, instilling a false idea of fraud in the electorate", says Mauro Campbell Marques.
