Experiment

I used one of my own threads to see what would happen. A lot of work and it's pretty barebones. I just wish we could find an easy way to save our content!

Breaking: positive article on JK in Herald and...a grandson on the way!

Edited on Wed Nov-23-11 08:08 AM by Luftmensch067
I don't know which is more of a surprise -- but both are good news!

All of this tumbled forth before I could even ask Kerry the only question I had in mind: What was he thankful for on this day?

“Well,” he sighed, “I’m thankful for life itself. A few weeks ago, I was standing with some college buddies in Arlington National Cemetery at the grave of a dear friend who died in Vietnam.

“To stand there is to become thankful for each and every day I’ve had since the war.

“I’m thankful for my first grandson, who will be born this coming April. I’m thankful for our country and all the gifts it continues to bestow on us. We are indeed a blessed nation.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to still be in the fight and rediscover the promise of the freedoms we have fought and sacrificed to uphold.”

1. Those really are thoughtful comments

- though he sounds a bit weary, but he really does never give up - and on this issue a good Senator fails if he does give up. He has to be extremely exited about the baby.

2. Wow...a positive article on JK and the Herald?
Edited on Wed Nov-23-11 10:10 PM by ObamaKerryDem
The two things usually cannot be found in the same sentence! I am glad I was sitting down when I saw this thread! LOL! I am frankly surprised that JK still talks to them (though I have to admire him for that, among so many other things-I know I would not have the patience! Though this appears to have been taken from CBS?). This IS a surprise, especially after the particularly nasty piece they did just the other day: http://bostonherald.com/news/us_politics/view/2011_1121... /

The Herald is still trash in my book, but this was a pleasant read- thank you so much for posting. And a grandson?? Wait, he says it's his first so...from one of his daughters? Either way...squee! Such exciting news, for the holiday season especially! He is going to be an awesome granddad (feels weird typing that though as you can tell he is so young at heart!) !! All the best to the family!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

3. I do not like the Herald, but I think that, in my 10 years reading Boston papers, I have been
more clearly positive articles in the Herald than the Globe. The Globe tries to maintain an aura of objectivity, and this translates in passive aggressive articles of Glenn Johnson and his likes. Only exceptionally do you get something clearly positive from them.

In the Herald, you get some terrible negative article by the GOP residents, but when it comes to real local reporting, you are much more likely to see something positive when they agree. The local reporting is also a lot better, given that the Globe loves big stories, but could not care less about local interest stories. I also noticed that often, when Kerry writes an editorial, he is much more likely to see it published by the Herald than the Globe.

Of course, their general editorial line is horrible, but they are a lot more transparent than the Globe.

and best wishes to him and the family for a healthy little one. Hope he and the fam have a nice, relaxing Thanksgiving break.

(no agenda, just 2 cents).

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Take care. Peace.

7. The article did not say, but it is most likely the case.

I don't think Alexandra is married, though that does does not mean it can't be her.

8. Hard to tell from the recent picture of her in the thread from her Montreal visit..

..though those were more focused in on her face and she was sitting down. Plus it's still relatively early, though every woman is of course different. I guess it will remain a mystery for now, lol, though it will become obvious at some point of course. Best wishes to either one who's the mama to be! So exciting!

Now, at the top right hand corner, they have a button for search. It currently goes back to old DU. I wonder if when they create a new search if they will have the ability to search the old DU threads. It sounds from comments here that you will not be able to, but under the old search, you could find things going back to at least 2003. It might be that they will have a menu that allows getting the old posts - especially as simply retaining the current search logic does that. It would seem the question is whether they want to keep everything archived.

You could argue that it is an incredible resource for the election. I know of no other place where I can as easily access real time articles on various things that happened in the last several years. Though I am usually looking for Kerry stuff, the same goes for Obama and other Democrats.
