The Laffer curve only worked when the tax rate was above 90%.

Imagine, a right-wing economist consults his model, makes a prediction, sees his prediction crash and burn -- and says the fault is with the model. We need a lot more of that.

Not being reality-based started to come into its own in US politics right about then. The politicos stopped caring about making sense, "spout the talking points the guy just handed you" is how it goes now.
