Sears Holdings is closing 43 more stores in the US, in addition to the 265 closings that had already been announced this year.
The company announced the latest closures on Friday.
The new list of closures includes 35 Kmart stores and eight Sears stores. All the stores will close in early October except the Sears store in Schererville, Indiana, which will close in early August.
The closings will bring Sears' store count to less than 1,140, down from 2,073 five years ago.

(21,137 posts)The two closing in California are red areas of the state.
What are Cheeto supporters going to do when they lose their jobs, healthcare and the safety nets are limited in those states because the rethugs state governments made it harder for them? Most of these states are running on deficits and lower tax revenues with the broken ideology of tax cuts for the rich helps everyone. There will be an even deeper ripple in these areas losing those stores.
And they can't blame Obama for this !

(20,868 posts)So much for that line of sh*t.
As stores close, where do the consumers go that do not shop online?
There are many reasons not to shop online and some people flat out refuse to do it.
In my day, nothing was more fun that to "go shopping". There were many stores at that time and I'd spend an entire Saturday shopping (even though I had no great sums of $ to spend).
SAD isn't it?

I am in a Union and though retired, I still voluntarily pay dues. They just sent me a newsletter telling me that my health insurance for 2018 is set in stone thanks to the contract they signed 2-years ago.
Not all Unions are gone but if these freaks have their way, they will be.
The one I am in is a large Union having 150,000+ members in it. We are are hard batch of nuts to crack, believe me and with people continuing to pay dues into retirement, it only does one thing and that is to strengthen and preserve what is left.
I come from a family of strong Union members. In fact, my grandfather was one of the first Teamsters in America!
UNION YES.

(51,590 posts)When I was a kid my sister and me walked the picket line with him during a summer strike. I got my job as a teacher since I refused to cross the line as a substitute and they remembered that when it was hiring time. I tried to start one at Macy's during my break and got into big trouble. As a teacher I was at every rally and got my picture in the paper and was harassed for the rest of my career. None of the younger teachers ever went to protest rallies. My experience doing that has come in handy with all the anti-loser marches I've attended(8 so far).
