Quote for the Day:

There is a widely circulated, portentous diagram that plots the past and anticipated rates of world fossil-fuel consumption over an extended time scale. It shows fossil-fuel consumption spanning only a very short transitory period in human history, from about 1800 to 2800. According to this estimate, in that 1000-year period human society is expected to consume all the fossil-fuel available on the earth, an estimate that involves only about 4 percent of the total amount of carbon that, in theory, must have accumulated on the earth during the photosynthetic build-up of about a billion years ago.
