Sad this group has no recent posts
Poverty less important than other topics I guess. Even though so many suffer from it.

1. Possibly because it's a very difficult topic to discuss.
I think there are some here who are genuinely impoverished. I, myself, have been fairly poor at earlier times in my life, and habits learned from that have stayed with me over the years. But in recent years I've been sufficiently above the poverty line that I probably no longer fully understand what it's like to live below it.
Don't get me wrong. I am genuinely grateful for my situation. And even though I've been somewhat poor, I've never been trapped in poverty. I recently read the book Evicted by Matthew Desmond, which follows the lives of several extremely poor people in Milwaukee who get evicted from their homes, often several times. It also profiles some landlords, so you do get to see both sides of the story, more or less. What's depicted is an extreme of poverty I have never come remotely close to. I recommend that book to anyone who reads in this group. |

2. Been homeless, live in HUD apartment
I have psych disorders.
I'm really scared of becoming homeless if I lose disability can't go to therapy or take my meds. So being poor I can't create a safe place From republicans. I wish I had enough money to not be so vulnerable to evil, cruel people like trump and his poor hating friends. I never wanted my life to turn out like it has. |

3. I want to say I understand,
but in reality I don't. Because I am not nor have I ever been close to homeless. Oh, I've been hungry, and the only reason I got some desperately needed dental care when I was in high school was through a local Catholic Charity, to which I've always been grateful.
I wish I could offer something more substantial. But I can't. All I can say is please, please make use of whatever support there is in your community. I do volunteer work at a local homeless shelter. I do it with a local faith group (it's officially the Interfaith Community Shelter) and I work in the kitchen, preparing and serving meals to our guests. One thing I've observed in the years I've been doing this is how very many of the homeless have mental health issues. Which is why I'll repeat: please make use of whatever support systems there are for you in your community. |

5. So many groups have low posts and replies
I don't like to be the only poster in a group, especially when no one replies. Rather post in general discussion, where it comes and goes fast. |
