Are there any companies that you would consider it unethical to work for?

Some of the companies that I could work for are large corporations. Some of those have been criticized for bad business practices on DU or by people who had them take over their company. Would it be bad to even apply to those places?
In addition to career track jobs, I am considering getting "any job" since it has been a month and a half and I am not getting unemployment. I still want to be able to search for jobs so it might be better to get a job with more flexible schedule so I still can go to interviews. Unfortunately, I live in a small town and don't want to drive a long ways to work in a low wage job that may assign me to short shifts. The majority of those jobs are at Walmart perhaps the king of bad business practices.
I really need a job, but I have been considering whether there are places where I shouldn't work.

2. As someone who is currently unemployed also, ethics are important to me.

A few weeks ago a friend suggested that I put my ethics aside, and take whatever I could find. I was a little insulted by his 'beggars can't be choosers' attitude. I don't consider my values any less relevant because I'm unemployed. In all fairness, I know that there are certain companies, or types of jobs that I could probably get hired for, but I simply could not perform at. For instance, I could not fathom working someplace that grinds people for money (ie any type of collections), or pushes products and services that people don't need, can't afford, are disingenuous or harmful to the greater good. Too many of us 99%'rs get forced into work out of necessity, even when the job involves preying on other 99%'rs.

3. Most of them. You have to weigh your options, and it's a very personal decision.

It's certainly bad to support bad business practices, but at the same time, a good progressive starving to death doesn't help anyone. You can't put gas in your car or put on clothing without feeling a little bit guilty knowing what's going on in the world to support those businesses, but you can't go around naked, either. You have to do the most good you can with the resources and restrictions you have.

If I'm ever rich, I'll make sure everything I consume pays a living wage all the way down the supply chain, but right now, I just don't have the resources to do so.
