Proposed cuts to NOAA and NASA target climate change research in particularCongress is considering spending bills that would significantly cut funding for key climate change research by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in 2017.
Among the losers: the oldest carbon dioxide observatories on the planet, the ability to track fossil fuel emissions in the United States and a program to study ocean acidification.
We are asking for a small amount of money to do all the right things, said James Butler, director of global monitoring at NOAAs Earth System Research Laboratory (ESRL).
The spending bill passed by the House Appropriations Committee last week allocates $128 million for NOAAs climate research, a 20 percent cut from the previous year. The bill allocates $1.7 billion for NASAs earth science division, a 12 percent cut from 2016.

(10,495 posts)floods here in Southeast Texas, all I can do is shake my head at what our system of legalized bribery is causing to be done to our environment. The oceans are dying very quickly with the increase in acidification starting to wipe out the Phytoplancton. You know, the organisms that supply 90% of the planet's oxygen! Environmentalists have been marginalized as "tree huggers" so others will be less likely to get involved.
This is why Bernie is fighting. He knows that we must first get the money out of our elections in order to properly address Climate Change. Publicly Funded Elections would do just that!
The signs of Climate Change are all around us now. The Great Barrier Reef almost dying out over one summer. Fish stocks so low we are getting reduced to Aqua-culture, which has its own pollution problems. We have had 3-4 100 year floods in the last 5 years here in Texas alone, before that the most severe drought.
Please feel the Bern so we don't feel the burn!

Don't reptiles prefer warmer temperatures for their habitats?
This insanity we are witnessing from them in regards to the planet can not be just about 'money' when they too have children or grand children.
