Low Temperature Records Crushed Across Midwest; Pueblo -19; Bismarck -31; Amarillo 0

The second of two arctic blasts in the past week has plunged into the nation's midsection and will remain in place to start the new workweek. More than two dozen record lows have been set in the Midwest and Plains this weekend with actual air temperatures in the 20s and 30s below zero, while wind chills have plunged into the minus 40s at times. Subzero low temperatures have been observed as far south as Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle Sunday morning.

Just got back inside from checking on my chickens; they were all huddled together under the cluster of 60 incandescent bulbs I rigged up as a heat lamp system. This is really going to test my hybrid hazel and chestnut seedling plots for cold hardiness, but that's a good thing. I want to weed out the weak and only grow the hardiest ones.

My Vermont Castings woodstove has been burning non-stop for the past two days. Good thing it will run 10-12 hr straight with hardwood.

Also, be prepared to hear "So much for global warming!" in the following days. I expect Trump to tweet this out any minute now.

Prior to her meeting with Gore, her only public comment on climate was a tweet back in 2012, to the effect of "sure could use some global warming" hyuck hyuck hyuck.
