UK grid hits 26% solar. (In early April.)

"With falling minimum demands on the transmission system, we anticipate there may be times this summer when there is more generation on the system than is needed."

That's how the UK's grid operator, National Grid, describes the anticipated situation this coming summer as the country's solar capacity—which has grown at an astounding rate over the last decade—fundamentally reshapes supply and demand curves.

Growth has been so rapid, reports Business Green, that solar momentarily hit a record high of 26% of electricity supply this past Sunday afternoon. Not bad for early April. (Wind also hit a record 20.59% earlier in the same day.)

So what? Every damned night it hits zero percent. As we're now at 408 ppm... NNadir Apr 2017 #1

...of CO2 in the planetary atmosphere, this kind of "percent" talk in which some effectively useless and expensive so called "renewable" energy system briefly reaches some momentarily significant figure is useless and frankly delusional.

The "solar will save us" meme is grotesque. It has not saved us; it isn't saving us; and it won't save us.

The rise of the dangerous fossil fuel waste carbon dioxide is proceeding at the fastest rate ever observed.

I've been hearing this "percent talk" here for a decade and a half.

How meaningful it has been is written in this simple bar graph from the Mauna Loa carbon dioxide:

Lying to ourselves about useless, expensive short lived systems that require the entrenchment of the use of dangerous fossil fuels because of their intrinsic unreliability will not make that carbon dioxide go away. On the contrary, it will make, it is making, and it has made it worse.

than for us. They have so much more land area and high-angle sunshine than we do.

Oh, wait.
