Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA1, LCV Lifetime Score 4%) Says GOP Want Climate Change Addressed
EDIT
Carter also noted that there are many conservatives who believe climate change should be addressed. I get frustrated sometimes when conservatives get pegged as being climate deniers. That's not the case at all, Carter said. There are many in our conference, there are many in our group who do believe that we should be addressing climate change. Yes, we do believe that it's cyclical in nature and man does have an impact on it.
Let's make sure we frame this correctly. Keep in mind that conservatives, particularly Republicans, have been leaders in conservation," Carter said, pointing towards Teddy Roosevelt, who was instrumental in the growth of America's national parks system, and Richard Nixon, who led the formation of the Environmental Protection Agency. "Facts are important, and its important to understand that, and I dont think we get enough credit in the United States for the progress weve made," Carter said.
Ed. - Narrator's voice: "What Carter failed to mention is that Teddy Roosevelt had died 102 years earlier, and that the creation of the EPA was already fifty years in the past."

In 2017, Carter reiterated his support for offshore drilling and for the seismic testing that would map out oil deposits, a move that leading marine scientists opposed due to the practice's harm to many forms of sea life, from phytoplankton to whales. "As I have said many times in the past, I support an all-of-the-above energy strategy which includes offshore development in the Atlantic," Carter wrote in 2017. "At the same time, I have also said that I believe any future energy exploration should ensure that our beautiful coasts are protected. This includes protecting our beloved right whales and other marine life including sharks."
EDIT
In June of this year, Carter said he doesnt refer to the Climate Crisis committee by its name, because hes not convinced the world is in a climate crisis. "The only thing I will tell you is this: I have never referred to this select committee as the Select Committee on (the) Climate Crisis. I refer to it as the Select Committee on Climate Change," Carter said. "So no, I don't consider it to be a crisis. I think it's cyclical. I think we can have an impact. We have a responsibility. We do have a responsibility to address some of the things that are happening with our climate."
