Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) is going ahead with plans to outfit its delivery fleet with custom electric vehicles from Rivian Automotive Inc. and is beginning to roll out the first full wave of them, the company said in a news release Thursday.
The Seattle-based e-commerce company said it expects to bring "thousands" of the electric vans to more than 100 U.S. cities by the end of the year.
Amazon began testing Rivian vans in Los Angeles in early 2021 and has slowly brought them to more cities, including San Francisco and Seattle. Amazon said it has delivered over 430,000 packages using Rivian vehicles, which have driven a collective 90,000 miles.
When Amazon began investing in Rivian in 2019, the tech giant said it was ordering 100,000 vehicles for use by 2030.

At $70,000 plus, theres not a lot of consumers in that market.
Factor in charging time and costs, and battery replacement/disposal, I wonder whether ev is the way to go. Ive been thinking about buying a hybrid.

(1,091 posts)$70k isn't out of the realm of a lot of buyers.
Ford F-150 XLT (mid range trim) is around $60k and gets 17/23 mpg. Assume 20,000 miles a year for 5 years at 20 mpg. Gas cost for 5,000 gallons at $3.50/gal is $17,500
