Noise pollution is a menace to humanity - and a deadly threat to animals

opinion piece at theguardian.com

Noise pollution is one of the gravest yet least recognized health threats of our time. Even moderate levels of noise – the kind that surrounds us in any urban environment – increase risks of cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment, developmental delays and dementia. Now, scientists are revealing that non-humans, too, suffer from noise pollution – and that they are far more sensitive than humans.

The Central Park Zoo in NYC seemed to always have skittish animals, most of them in cages too small. secondwind Jan 2023 #2

I'm talking about decades ago, I hope at least the cages are larger.......... do not know about the noise.
It's New York City, after all.

We are a noisy species. Years ago I read a novel about a character who took up caving to get away from the noise of humanity. Much as I'd love the quiet, I wouldn't go that far! ~cringe

I don't even want to put my hearing aids in. I never realized when I bought this property, even though we're in the country, how close the railroad and interstate were.

Its sad that some people can't even stand quiet anymore. They need a TV going at all times, but seldom watch it.
